The Secret Lives of Jason Collier

Kira Inman, Staff Writer

As of recently, ex-Texas police chief Jason Collier has been exposed and gone viral on Facebook for his numerous romantic exploits. He has become notorious online for his unfaithfulness to the point where he had to leave behind multiple parts of his past life, including his marriage, work, and religious organization.

Collier’s romantic life became widely publicized when one of his fiancees, Cecily Steinmetz, became aware that he was already married and made a Facebook post about how was living a double maybe even a triple life behind their backs. The extent of his affair was furthered when another woman, Kristi Shaffer, disclosed that she too was had been proposed to by Collier. When Steinmetz and Collier were away together on a vacation to Taos, New Mexico, Shaffer had been told that he had a work assignment in Portland Oregan. Further discussion revealed even more discrepancies in his stories. Since going viral, several more women have come forward claiming to be lovers of or related to lovers of Jason Collier, some even being as young as eighteen while Collier is currently forty-one. Although it is uncertain whether or not some of these claims are truthful. The reports about the number of women have ranged from three to nineteen. His current wife and mother of his two-step children, Opal Collier, has made no comment about these issues but is known to be currently filing for divorce in order to separate from Jason Collier. As of recently, many of those who were known to be involved with Jason romantically and with the Facebook thread have deleted their posts or their account entirely.

In addition to his romantic life, his private issues have also disrupted his work life. Despite being named police chief of Stinnett, Texas Police Department in February 2020, on January 28th he was arrested for the state felony of forging and tampering with government documents. It is said that his sentence could be up to two years in jail and a fine of up to ten thousand dollars. These documents were falsified separation papers that he had given to his fiancees in an attempt to convince them that he had gotten a divorce from his wife. Steinmetz also claimed that Collier would leave during his shift to come to visit her. In a statement on the City of Stinnett Facebook page, it was announced that Collier would be put on leave and then later updated to reveal that he had resigned from his position. The Hutchinson County District Attorney’s office has also requested the Texas Rangers to do a criminal investigation on Collier.

Jason Collier was seen as respectable and honest to many as he was a police chief and a known Christian religious leader in his community as both his wife and he were apart of the board of directors of a group called Our Brothers Keepers located in Texas. The pair have been publically asked to step down from their positions after the current issues that have arisen and have resigned as board members.
