National Security Advisor Resigned After 3 Short Weeks

President Donald Trump’s newly appointed National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, resigned after only three weeks he began the job

President Donald Trump’s newly appointed National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, resigned after only three weeks he began the job. A few days prior to resigning, Flynn had apologized to Vice President Mike Pence for giving him misleading information about the phone conversations Flynn had had with the Russian Ambassador.

On Monday, Flynn turned in his letter of resignation to President Trump and Vice President Pence. In his letter, he explains that the phone calls were made to enhance the relationship between Russia and President Trump. He explained that he did not mean to leave out important details to the Vice President and others, but that it just happened in the “fast pace of life”, and feared that sharing some details would leave himself in a compromised position. He also mentioned how honored he was to have been given the opportunity to work for and with President Trump, and states that he believes that “with the strong leadership of President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence and the superb team they are assembling, this team will go down in history as one of the greatest presidencies in U.S. history”.

Personally, I do not believe that it was right for Flynn to deceive Trump and Pence, but I respect his decision to damage his reputation, instead of hurting others. Flynn probably had to work really hard to get into the position of National Security Advisor, but the fact that he risked the loss of his position to do the right thing, shows a lot about his character. Some political figures (not all of them), are prideful and are more concerned about themselves then the welfare of others. The fact that Flynn realized how many people’s reputations he would be ruining if he released the information, and he decided to risk his job instead, shows a lot about his character. But, I don’t think that he did it in the best way. He probably could have thought of a better way then to lie to the President and the Vice President. Flynn’s actions are just another example of the tough problems we are going to encounter, and it all comes down to how we react to the problem.
