The Cons To America’s Presence In Syria and Trump’s Recent Actions

As you may know, Donald Trump and the United States Military had launched fifty-nine tomahawk missiles at a Syrian Military airfield in response to President Assad’s chemical attack, which had killed a litany of Syrian civilians. While this may seem like a smart move by the United States, their attack does not come without consequence, it raises many risks regarding foreign policy and national security.

Many are unaware that Russia and Iran back Syria, meaning that the U.S. increasing their involvement in Syria heightens the probability of coming in direct contact with Russia, and/or the Middle East.  Along with this increased risk of coming into direct contact with unwanted countries, many criticize the Trump Administration’s justification for striking Syria is a bit hypocritical. America strikes Syria claiming it as an act of justice regarding the innocent Syrians killed, however, if the government really desired justice for innocent Syrians, why has Trump placed a travel ban specifically targeting Syria and its neighbors?

Syria is currently by far the most war-torn country in the world, and over its six-year period, the Syrian Civil War has killed over four hundred thousand. The Syrian Civil War has left its people scrambling for food, desperately hanging onto life. If Trump and his administration truly believe that an attack of fifty-nine tomahawk missiles on Syria is serving justice to Syrian civilians, he is wrong. If Trump really desired justice for Syria, he would not have placed a travel ban specifically targeting Syria, and he would not have spoken poorly upon Syrian refugees, calling them: “ISIS maybe?” Even his daughter, Ivanka Trump has defied his belief and expressed that the Syrian refugee situation is a global humanitarian crisis and it is imperative for the United States to admit Syrian refugees into America.

It is clear that Trump’s attack on Syria is contradictory to his policies, and it is highly likely that Trump had only got America further involved in Syria in order to prove himself as a president, which has clearly backfired.
