The Santiago Sharks varsity boys soccer team’s 2015-2016 season has come to an end with an overall record of 6-7-2 and a league record of 5-4-1. Even though the Sharks didn’t make the Big 8 playoffs, the team has still improved their league record over the last two years. The team also swept league rivals Norco and Roosevelt in impressive fashion winning by at least 2 in every game.
The Shark’s main troubles came on the offensive end where Santiago was held to one point or less in 7 games this season. The team’s defense seemed to be a much stronger force only allowing 2 or less goals in 12 games this season. Santiago now ranks 944 in the nation, 388 in the state, 188 in the sectional standings, and 37 in the Southern Section Division 1 standings.
The team looks to break this 3 year playoff drought next year in the 2016-2017 season with young talent and returning players #88 T. Knorr (11) and #4 J. Citizen (11). The team looks to start off the season strong against their none league opponents at the end of November and in the beginning of December. The team also wants the success in league they hade 3 years ago were they didn’t lose a single game.
