Homecoming 2017 Recap!
October 19, 2017
The weekend of October 6th was Santiago’s latest homecoming; a night filled with music, dance, and girls constantly throwing it back! Amidst all the pandemonium and hormones running rampant at this year’s Homecoming, there are some aspects of this night that we would actually like to remember for some time to come.
The most essential aspect to any kickin’ party is unequivocally the music at the said party. For lack of a better word, the music was simply mediocre. Not bad, but nothing to write home about – that’s for certain. The music had the feeling that the DJ was just playing what was most popular among the youngsters at the time. This isn’t to say so much that I did not like the music being played, rather I did not particularly enjoy the DJ and the vibe that he brought to our Homecoming. A good DJ doesn’t just play the hottest hits at the time, because anyone could do that much, a good DJ adds their own essence and style and emotion to the music. This helps to add uniqueness to the music, which goes even further to make the night a memorable one. Otherwise, you’re just going to be listening to songs that you’ve already heard approximately a hundred times on the radio.
As far as the crowd itself goes, it is an understatement to simply say that it was crowded. If you wanted to be anywhere even remotely close to the main stage, then you would have had to been strong enough to endure the multitude of arms and hands just incessantly knocking you around. The sheer amount of heat generated by roughly over – a thousand? – students in one high school gymnasium is frankly unbelievable. You could not go to Homecoming without walking out at least moderately sweaty.
It would be difficult to entirely skip over the overwhelming presence of sexual tension being released on Homecoming night, but for legal purposes it must be kept to a minimum. Even the holiest of men, on this fateful night became deviants. To be blunt, it was a sight to be seen and a sight to forget.
What with the music, the crowd, and the uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh inappropriate behavior, it was a fun night. In total, this year’s Homecoming was definitely an event.

Homecoming this year was definitely one for the books. As this is my last year at Santiago High School I did find it to be a bit of a let down in comparison to other years. However I do commend ASB for setting up as much as they did, and I acknowledge that they can’t necessarily control the “inappropriate behaviors” that stem from dances. I think they did a great job with stepping up security and even though there were many instances that people weren’t feeling 100% I myself felt safer than I normally do.

As I attended Homecoming, I would like to politely disagree with the music. Depending on where you were, outside or inside, the music varied. I personally like the music the DJ was playing outside than inside, as it was more up-to-date. Inside music, however, was a rave. The music didn’t even sound like music; more like random noises blaring from stereos. Of course, everyone’s music taste varies, so no argument there.
And ah yes. I didn’t witness any of the inappropriateness at Homecoming (thank goodness), but I definitely heard about it. I hope next year the teacher’s may be able to minimize the sexual acts (although it’s probably very unlikely).
