Nov. 29, at approximately 3 p.m., three Santiago students driving in a jeep turned left onto Spring Meadow Drive on their way home from school, when, according to eyewitness sophomore Tyler Van Rossen, they flipped twice before landing upside down on the curb, only a few feet away from a nearby home.
“They were losing control and then it flipped,” says another eye witness, middle-schooler Juan Ochoa. All three girls appeared to be in decent shape after the accident, as no witnesses saw any injuries besides what appeared to be a cut on the foot of the driver. The ambulance on the scene stayed there for about 15 minutes before driving to the hospital.
Darcy Harrington, who owned the house nearest to the crash, stated that this was not the first time a crash had occurred near that position. She cited an incidence experienced by the previous owner of the house, when a wooden fence “was taken out” by a careening vehicle.
Neighbors gathered to view the onslaught of emergency vehicles, and to comment on how the crash could have been prevented. Local homeowner Benjamin Valenzuela repeatedly stated that there was a need for speed bumps in the area. “I’ve seen this coming,” said Valenzuela. “I think we all did.”
