Angel’s Baseball is Back!!

Thomas Cass, Staff Writer

After months of waiting for baseball to start again, it is finally back. After a really long and disappointing 80-82 season recorded, one of the best off seasons that this team has had in a long time unfolded.

A couple of months before the off season started, the team got some boost to their lineup. The Angels acquired  Justin Upton from Detroit. Who cares who or what they gave up, they have the depth to the lineup for the first time since 2015, the last time the Angels won the division(American League West). Another intriguing player added to the team is Zack Cozart from The Reads. The former all-star shortstop will be playing at 3rd base. The Angels haven’t had a solid 3rd baseman for the past two years.

Once the season was over, the team looked at their defense and knew they had to get a better pitcher. They got much more than a pitcher when the Angles acquired two-way Japanese player  Shohei Ohtani. This is the best player that was acquired by any team this offseason. He can be a really good pitcher one day and a home run hitter the next day. Shohei played a couple seasons in the Japanese baseball league and was amazing from 2013-2017. As soon as he was signed by the Angels on December 8, 2017, everyone around the game was buzzing. Once the calendar turned, we had this excitement for Angel baseball that the fans have not felt by their team in a long time.

As spring training is in full swing, analysts look forward as to what certain teams can and can’t do in the regular season. No matter what they say, remember that they only look at the numbers and not what the players will be thinking. Once the first pitch is thrown to start Angel baseball, everyone in the country will be wondering what this team will be like throughout the season…
