Peace Between Koreas

Gabby Puerner, Writer

North Korea’s Kim Jong-un and South Korea’s Moon Jae-in have finally made peace with each other. The war that originally started in the 1950s will now come to an end. A day that was just supposed to be of talks and gestures between the two leaders took a turn for the best. The moment Moon Jae-in stepped into North Korea will go down in history. Kim then became the first North Korean leader to step into South Korea since the end of the Korean War in 1953. The video of the two leaders shaking hands on both sides went viral across social media. Many people were moved to see the new, happier sides of the two leaders as they met.

What are the benefits of this rejoice? Well, the two leaders are currently in the process of ending the use and production of nuclear weapons. Which means that the United States no longer has to fear that we will be nuked due to Trump’s Twitter feuds with Kim. This may also result in China losing influence over the Korean Peninsula. However, China was very supportive of the movement and congratulated them.

The signed the Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity, and Unification on the Korean Peninsula. This is the formal end to the war and was celebrated by the two leaders at a dinner together. Overall, this is a monumental moment that will go down in history and hopefully make changes for best. In the next few years, other countries may regain trust with the two Korean sides and begin to ally with them.
