Mac vs. PC

Throughout this generation, the discussion has emerged of which computer is best in the market, with consideration in categories like hardware, specifications, consumer appeal, portability, etc. This argument pertains to two of the most popular computers that have been around for a millennium: Mac and PC.

Hardware shows differences among the wide specifications that define computers in the inferior, simple designs. Windows, in particular, is superior with their market share. Statistically, it has 88% of shares among the global market and Mac only has 8.5%. Windows has over 1 billion people consistently and actively utilizing their program because it is very simplistic and straightforward to follow, while Mac users are only around 100 million, which is still quite a lot of people in general, but not up to par for exceeding expectations as opposed to Windows.

The average Mac typically goes on the market with expansive demand for $1,000. The MacBook Pro’s starting price was initially over $2,799. The price range for most Apple products are usually very high, which makes it difficult for smaller budget consumers to invest in a product of theirs, but it’s their market strategy that is most accessible. Their more updated and sophisticated design philosophy is what attracts consumers to always come back to their products. Desktops can cost up to a whopping $4,999, while the MacBook Pros or lesser performing computers average around $1,300. If you are a consumer that is more interested in gaming, desktops you would prefer go for around $900-$5,000. On the other hand, Dell PCs are mostly priced around $500. Gaming on a PC is the more efficient way to invest your money, comparison with a Mac, because PCs are more compatible with gaming programs. Steam charts state that 99% of consumers use Windows when gaming.

Apple’s computers are constantly being improved, which is apparent with their new products being announced and sold every year. However, if you are on a budget, there are better options with a displayed library of PCs that are more affordable and up to date with specifications. If you are a gamer, designer, writer, or like to stream content on your computer, PCs are truly as good as any Mac, and they will cost you less money. It often boils down to the operating system you prefer. Apple products are more of a status symbol since the majority of people like to have an appearance that conveys wealth.

While Macs were prone to fewer online threats than PCs were in the past, that is significantly changing. The rising popularity of Mac operating systems in recent years has made them a primary target for cybercriminals. They have subsequently fallen prey to a number of viruses, malware, and other web threats. It is true though that Windows PCs are more vulnerable to viruses than Macs. This gives a very good reason to invest in a Mac, though, we shouldn’t have a false sense of security because of the growing numbers of Mac attacks. For now, with the majority of the world using PCs, the majority of cyber attacks will be in those.

Another thing to consider is that it’s easier to build up your PC as opposed to a Mac. Apple gives fewer options and the costs quickly add up. Microsoft, on the other hand, also has flaws. When it came out, Windows 10 was severely criticized for its lack of advertisement and employing data tracking features that the company released without the consumer knowing.

What are the best selling computers of all time? Number one goes to the Commodore 64: 1982, with over 16 million units. Two goes to Commodore Amiga 500: 1987, 6 million units. Three being MSX: 1983, 5 million units. Four going to Sinclair ZX Spectrum: 1982, 5 million units. Finally the Apple II: 1977 selling 1 million units and the IMac: 1998, finishing off with 800,000 units. Historically, PCs reign supreme over Macs.

In 2017, total PC sales against Mac sales showed Apple was still behind other big manufacturers. Apple computer sales last year were 19.6 million, while Dell sold 41 million, Lenovo sold 54 million, and HP sold 56 million. In 2018, the top manufacturers are still maintaining their same position. Apple has sold 4 million worldwide. In contrast, the top PC manufacturers have sold a whopping 35 million units (Dell, Lenovo, and HP).

Many critics believe that Apple must once again captivate and enrapture their audience since the majority of their products feature the same ongoing quality that existed prior to the last product they produced. In terms of what to present to the consumer, Apple products aren’t much different from it competitors and adversaries who consistently maintain new sleek originality when it comes to design. If Apple wants to improve its market share, they must produce a strategic plan that has at a new bold and superb design, improved hardware, and useful software.

In conclusion, if PCs have an exceptionally good budget and products that fulfill all your needs if you are short on money, then a PC is a good direction in investing your money and time into. Macs are also great products if you are interested in their style and the products they always present each year as well as their myriad of new functionality features that will always have consumers allured once more.
