Kanye West Goes Public With His Political Views

America has been going crazy for the past few days over a few tweets and a Saturday Night Live performance by Kanye West. West, or Ye, is a famous rapper and celebrity. You might know him by some of his older songs like Gold Digger, and Heartless, although he just came out with a brand new song titled I Love It. Recently he appeared on SNL, delivering an unexpected performance about his personal political views. West is a supporter of Donald Trump and expressed how he agrees with our current president, even though a large portion of Americans don’t.

One reason that it was so unexpected was that West wasn’t originally supposed to be on the show. Instead, the famous singer Ariana Grande was scheduled, but she had to cancel last minute. West walked out on stage wearing his MAGA, or “Make America Great Again”, hat. He began his segment by accusing the people backstage of “bullying him into not wearing it” before the show, and continued by touching upon many different topics, including the fact that you don’t have to agree with what’s going on, that love is what is most important, and how 90% of news is liberal and it’s all one-sided. He admitted that he knows most people don’t agree with his opinion, and the audience was taken aback.

The audience, however, weren’t the only ones who answered to West. Since then, many celebrities have reached out to him and voiced their own opinion. One specific tweet that has received a lot of attention came attached to a picture of him in his infamous MAGA hat yet again. The caption read “this represents good and America becoming whole again. We will no longer outsource to other countries. We build factories here in America and create jobs. We will provide jobs for all who are free from prisons as we abolish the 13th amendment. Message sent with love.” The public was confused by this since the 13th amendment outlawed slavery in America. This created an amalgamation of questions and different reactions, causing West to post a follow-up tweet explaining himself.

Most people still support him but have lost at least some of their respect for him. For example, Swizz Beatz said, “ain’t nobody bullying you, we love you, but you gotta stop that s***, that s*** ain’t right.” Many different celebrities have been responding, with some supporting him, and some disagreeing with him. Along with Swizz Beatz, the famous singer Lana Del Rey commented a whole paragraph under one of his Instagram posts. To summarize it, Lana simply said that West supporting Trump is a “loss for our culture,” and that he must have similar personality traits with the president to agree with him.

Since then, West has deleted all social media, and Pete Davidson went on SNL, sat down, and walked the audience through West’s appearance the previous week. He lightened the mood with many jokes, and the audience was laughing throughout the whole interview. Davidson even put on a hat that said “Make Kanye 2006 Again” in an attempt to mock Trump’s main slogan.

People are still talking about Kanye’s tweets and posts on social media, and some are even claiming that the deletion of his social media is a positive thing. This controversy has caused a multitude of celebrities to take sides, with their own political views coming out. We are all left wondering whether or not the whole situation was enacted to gain attention, but either way Kanye definitely did get some.
