Aurora Colorado’s recent shootings

Caitlyn Wilson, Staff Writer

In Aurora Colorado, at Hinkle High School, four students were charged with attempted murder. The students had brought guns to school because they were anticipating a fight against members of a gang. The reason they had started shooting has not been discovered said police. Two of the students that were injured were students of Hinkle High School and the other was a student of APS Avenues school. They were a sixteen-year-old boy, a seventeen-year-old boy, and a sixteen-year-old girl. Aurora Police Chief Vanessa Wilson said that none of the students’ injuries were life-threatening.

6 teens shot in a drive-by shooting near Aurora Central High School

The students who brought the guns to school and committed a crime were  “Larry Renee Jefferson, Dalen Lenale Brewer, Diego Flores, and Alejandro Carillo Hernandez are each charged with:

  • Four counts of attempted first-degree murder
  • One count of first-degree assault
  • One count of second-degree assault

  • Two crime-of-violence sentence enhancers.

Jefferson also faces a charge of using a prohibited large-capacity magazine during a crime.” said a CNN article.

(Hernandez) appears to walk away from the group and appears to start shooting at the Boner Boys, seemingly without provocation,” according to the affidavit.” said a Colorado report.

A boy who was involved in the shooting said that “it’s the way it is in this town.”

The article also states that Jefferson and Brewer’s status hearing is on December 15th and that Flores’s status hearing is scheduled for March 7th. Because of the significance and the weight of the crimes, all four students will be charged as adults for their actions.

Police refuse to answer questions about the crime and people who ask are directed to the District Attorneys’ office.

A drive-by nearby injured 6 teenagers on November 15, 2021

The drive-by happened in “Nome Park, East 12th Avenue, and Nome Street police said.” reports an article from the Denver Post. According to the Denver Post, a 15-year-old suspect was arrested and has been charged with attempted first-degree murder. Since the suspect is so young, police have decided to not release the identity of the 15-year-old. Two sixteen-year-olds were also arrested two days after the 15-year-old was arrested, and because they are so young, police have decided not to share the name of the kids. The Denver Post also reports that two vehicles were involved in the shooting, a Chevrolet Tahoe, and a Chrysler 300. The Denver Post says that they “have been found and seized as a part of the ongoing investigation.”

Police chief Vanessa Wilson reported that none of the teenagers who were shot had any life-threatening injuries. One of the teenagers went into surgery and the others were hospitalized. The teenagers were between the ages of 14-18. Two of the students went to Hinkley High School and the three went to ASP Avenues, reported the Denver Post.

There are many people who could be possible suspects as police believe that some offenders could have been on foot alongside the vehicle.
