Renowned actor Alec Baldwin has been set to be charged with involuntary manslaughter according to ABC News; officials reported Thursday morning. Baldwin along with armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed will both be charged on account of the fatal shooting that occurred at the ranch near Sante Fe, in October of 2021, while filming the upcoming television series “Rust” in New Mexico.

The family of Halyna Hutchins, who was the cinematographer killed on the set, made a statement while recalling the events, “ It is a comfort to the family that, in New Mexico, no one is above the law”. https://www.popsugar.com/Alec-BaldwinSince Alec Baldwin is a well-known actor, the consequences of his actions were taken into close consideration. The New Mexico district attorney states, both Baldwin Gutierrez-Reed will not be arrested after their court appearances. District attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies made had formally filed the charges against the pair. The prosecutor tells another district attorney Josh Campbell, they have no other plans to charge anyone else who was connected to the case. Carmack-Altwies, states, “An actor does not get a free pass just because they are an actor. That is what is so important. We are saying here in New Mexico, that everyone is equal under the law”.

It was said to be the failure of the crew on set as they were in charge of the “live and dummy rounds” that would be used.

The two are set to face up to 18 months in jail and a $5,000 fine if they are to be convicted. David Halls, the film assistant’s director was also wounded in the shooting events. Baldwins’ lawyer, Luke Nikas stated, “He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds.” Hutchins had died in the hospital after being hit in the chest by a prop gun. After an investigation, once determining “a degree of neglect”, producers were fined $136,000 by New Mexico’s Environment Neglect.

Many outside sources state the action was for the film crew to take the blame because of the “carelessness” taken in checking if the prop guns were loaded with real or fake bullets. Given the circumstance of Baldwin being an actor, Former LA County prosecutor Joshua Ritter sent an email to “The Daily Beast” stating that charging Baldwin would be a “Bold move”. As the lawyers can defend, it was not the actors’ responsibility for prop safety. On Friday, while walking to his home in Manhattan, Baldwin made no comments to reporters about the charges.

According to the Santa Fe District attorneys’ office, Alec Baldwin will not be charged with the shooting as that would be considered “ unintentional battery” and there is no such thing. So in order to charge the actor, they would need plausible evidence. In response to the evidence, Baldwin recalls, talking about Halyna Hutchins, “Everybody adored her as a person” he then adds, “ That she died, that’s the worst thing at all. Somebody died, and it was avoidable. It was so unnecessary. Every day of my life I think about that”.
