March 7, Santiago High School fire alarms went off before school began as two students set off the smoke detectors in the T-building bathroom through second-hand drug smoke. The alarm rang for approximately 10 minutes as administration traced the source of the problem. The students have since been disciplined and the school cleared of a possible hazard of fire.
A school-wide failure to properly respond to the situation as most of the staff chose to ignore the sirens prompted Assistant Principal Kenny Torres to remind staff through a morning announcement to follow proper evacuation procedure and assume all alarms are not false unless immediately announced otherwise.
