Sharkfest is the annual Santiago High School event that ASB puts together to welcome everyone to the new school year. It’s one of the many events this school year. This after-school gathering includes family, students, staff, and fun. It’s targeted to be a freshman event to help them acclimate to the new scary waters of high school.
There were a variety of food trucks offering refreshing drinks such as Kona Ice, delicious fan-favorite snacks like Wetzel’s Pretzels, and cooling ice cream from the White Lyon. Not to mention the entertainment of the inflatables everywhere you turn. You could have chosen from the bright red firefighter-themed jumper with obstacles inside the outdoor foosball inflatable or even the Hawaiian-themed inflatable to race your friends in.
Of course, this event meant interviewing families, students, staff, and ASB students at Shark Fest.
I asked three questions of all these wonderful people:
“How would they rate Shark Fest out of 1-10?”
“What was their favorite part they experienced?”(performances, food trucks, bouncy houses, etc)
“What was the reason to visit and experience Shark Fest?”
Let’s look at what the students thought of these events when asked the three questions:
“(State your name) Serenity Sanchez” “(Q1) I would rate it a 10” “(Q2) The Wetzel’s Pretzels” “(Q3) The reason I came was to see all of the wonderful people.”
“(State your name) Rayden” “(Q1) Like a 7 it’s pretty fun” “(Q2) Probably the rides like the bouncy castles” “(Q3) I just came with my friends to have fun”
“(State your name) Jace Martinez” “(Q1) A 9 out of 10” “(Q2) Probably the shaved ice” “(Q3) I came here because of friends”
“(State your name) Mallory” “(Q1) I would rate it a 8.5 out of 10” “(Q2) My favorite is the soccer foosball” “(Q3) To support the school”
Let’s look at what ASB and Santiago’s staff thought of these events when asked the three questions:
“(State your name) Jacob and Gabriel “(Q1) I’d give it a solid 8; yeah, I agree with that rating.” “(Q2) The bounce house and the food, for sure.”
“(State your name) Dr. (heron?)” “(Q1) This year, Shark Fest is a 15; it is packed!” “(Q2) So far it has been the Maui Icee place the pink lemonade, the best part about Sharkfest” “(Q3) To support the students.”
“(State your name) Sebastian Schiavone” “(Q1) A 10 Shark Fest is a blast; lots of people coming out for this school event, and it’s a great opportunity for kids to have fun with their siblings and for parents to see what Santiago’s about” “(How do you like working it) Working it is fun I like interacting with all of my friend’s families, and it’s nice to see everyone come out for the bouncy houses and the ice cream and the food.”
“(State your name) Brandon Fonseca” “(Q1) I’d give it a solid 9” “(How do you like running it) I think it’s cool, it’s a lot to see what goes on behind the scenes, and like all the events and all the hard work because a lot of people out of school see how fun the event is but they don’t see how much work goes in it so it’s cool to give back to the people in charge of it” “(Q2) So far I like the human soccer foosball in the grass”
Shark Fest was a total success. This was clear from the smiles of families who came to support their children and the school, which, when asked, enjoyed this school event and hoped to go again next year.
However, let’s not forget the two who ran and planned this fantastic event: Charles Ramshaw and Isaiah Smith. These two started to get to work as soon as they left the school doors last school year. They continued this work throughout the summer break, dividing and conquering all the long meetings and phone calls to companies that made Shark Fest possible. Feeling accomplished with how successful their planning was, they were surprised by the number of people who came and were glad to see people happy at the event.
