The Downfall of Blake Lively
Blake Lively is a pop culture icon. She has starred in many movies and TV shows, such as The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, A Simple Favor, and many more. Before that, she got her big break on the hit show Gossip Girl, playing Serena Van Der Woodsen in 2007. She is currently married to the famous Ryan Reynolds and has four children. Before her current controversies, Blake Lively was a beloved actress to many and a fashion icon. This was until her new movie “It Ends With Us” came out, which left people with many questions…
It Ends With Us Backstory
It Ends With Us is a book adaptation by Collen Hoover, directed and starred by Justin Baldoni. Fans and readers highly anticipated this movie, so they noticed that something was off when it was released. During the press release, fans questioned why director and star Justin Baldoni was nowhere to be found. He was seen doing interviews separate from the cast. Fans quickly accused Blake Lively of being the reason why, as her interviews began to release, they noticed her blatant insensitivity towards many Domastic Violent-related questions, which seemed odd considering she was portraying a character that had dealt with Dometic Violence. For example, when one interviewer asked, “If someone relates and understands the themes of this topic ( Dometic Violence) comes across you in public and wants to talk to you about this, what is the best way for them to be able to talk to you about this, how would you recommend they go about this?” Blake Lively replied, “They could ask me for my address or phone number.. Or like location share..” She then went on joking sarcastically. Immediately after this interview, fans were unhappy, and they quickly shared how they felt about how rude and insensitive Blake was. This has since then left Blake with a lot of hate.
The Interview
In the midst of all of this hate and canceling, an interviewer named Kjersti Flaa shared a clip on social media from an interview in 2016 with Blake Lively and her co-star Parker Posey, titling it “The Interview that made me want to quit my job. In this interview Kjersti stated that the sitdown was “the most uncomfortable..situation” she has ever experienced. Why? You may be wondering, well first and foremost beginning the interview Kjersti politely congratulated Lively on her “little bump” referring to Livelys previously confirmed pregnancy. To which Lively sarcastically replied saying “congrats on your little bump” stunned, the nonpregnant interviewer nervously laughed as co-star Parker Posey tried diffusing the tension by pointing out her “bump.” Unfortunately, it didn’t end there. As the interview went on, Kjersti asked how the cast enjoyed the fashion and their thoughts on it, completely dismissing Kjersti and not even facing her. Lively stated, “ Everyone wants to talk about the clothes, but I wonder if they would ask the men about them.” Although Kjersti repeated “I would” multiple times, Lively continuously dismissed the
interviewer and showed relief as soon as the interview was over. With this interview resurfacing online, the hate train for Lively has only grown.
What has happened since?
Since then, more and more people have grown very upset with Lively and demanded an apology. However, Blake has remained silent and has not addressed any controversy. Castmates and family members of Blake have come out and defended Blake, for example, her sister Robyn Lively has publicly posted Blake wishing her a Happy birthday to which a fan posted “Blake is a lovely human being!! I hope she knows that the multitudes of people who love her are much greater than the negative voices,” Robyn replied, thanking the fans for their support. This situation demonstrates how quickly a person, even one who is highly well-liked and popular, can go from beloved to despised in a matter of minutes by their actions, which have consequences.
