Seniors Last Seasons
As seniors enter their last year of high school, many realize this is their last year in any sports or extracurriculars at Santiago High School. Senior athletes are capturing the last moments and memories of their high school careers as athletes at Santiago High School. I have decided to interview three outstanding athletes who are successful and hard workers who have brought their High School team excellent qualities. I interviewed seniors Natalie Horvath, Karley Weaver, and Abigail White and asked them many questions about their experience as an athlete at Santiago High School.
Natalie Horvath’s Interview
One of the first questions I asked Natalie was, “How many years did she play a sport in high school?” She said she had played flag football for two years. The next question was about her favorite memory of this sport. Her favorite memory was when she cheered on her teammates and saw how high the energy gets on the field and how positive the game became. The next question I began was “How does this help you or what you have accomplished from playing this sport.” She has made great bonds with girls on her team and lifelong friendships that she cherishes. Lastly, I asked Natalie “What benefited you most from participating in a high school sport.” It has benefited her to meet different people who have all decided to make a better version of herself.
Karley Weaver’s Interview
Next, I then interviewed Karley Weaver. I asked her, “How many years she has done a high school sport.” She has been on cheer for three years.” Her favorite memory of cheering was being told she “would be the varsity captain this season.” Karley is so excited and grateful to get to lead her team. She has accomplished coming out of her shell and being herself. “Cheer has helped me branch out and meet more people.” She has become more confident in herself. What Karley is going to miss most is “the girls.” She has made great friendships from the sport, and she is sad to leave them this year. She stated how she has “benefited from being able to have a community of people and a break from school.”
Abigail White’s Interview
Lastly, I interviewed Abigail White. She has played water polo for all four years of high school and flag football for two years. Abigail’s favorite memory of water polo is “spending the day in Santa Barbara to play a CIF game.” Abigail’s biggest accomplishment was when her “team reached made it to the CIF semi-finals”. She is going to miss her teammates the most. She has met great people and has made so many great memories with her team. She has “benefited from playing sports in a good way because it has taught her the value of hard work and discipline.” It has given her good life lessons It has taught her never to give up; even when quitting feels easier it feels easier to quit.
Many seniors are experiencing their final moments in high school sports and extracurriculars, which gives them a different look at life and how things come to an end. They are cherishing their memories and enjoying their last season at Santiago.
As it is my senior year, I am excited to experience my last of it and will make sure I remember all the great memories that Santiago has brought for me and many other student-athletes. By interviewing these girls, I have seen how much playing a high school sport has benefited them and how important it has been to them and myself for the past four years. Santiago has brought many great memories and lifelong- friendships from playing these sports.
