The 2024 Santiago High School Fall rally will be Shrek Tacular! Performances from Hip-hop, Dance, Cheer, The Black Sea, and much more! The team captains and varsity teams of Cross country, Football, Girls’ Flag Football, Girls’ Golf, Girls’ Tennis, Girls’ Volleyball, and Boys’ Water polo will represent each of their sports. Let’s hear from our fellow sharks about what they’re looking forward to in this swamptastic rally!
What are you looking forward to in this fall rally? How do you think it will go?
“I’m so excited to see how ASB executed the theme of Shrek, I thought that was really cool how each year gets their own characters, so I’m really excited to see how the gym is going to look because of the theme. I think this rally will turn out really amazing because I know all the performance teams are performing like cheer, and I’m a cheerleader so I’m so excited to wear my green tutu and show everybody!” Rylin (10)
“I’m looking forward to the student sections because it’s Shrek and everyone fricks with Shrek, and it’s so much fun because hip hop is going to be lit. I think this rally will be so dope because all the sports are going to be into it because it’s Shrek again everyone fricks with Shrek, and basically yeah, it’s going to be so lit.”, Autumn Celaya (10)
“Being able to see my friends and watching how much the shows have improved from last year. I believe this year’s rally will be better than last year’s, considering the themes and what we understand and not weird. I think this rally will be pretty crazy because of all the students we have this year.” Karen Braverman (10)
“Probably all the dances like hip hop, they’re so good. I think this rally will be pretty good. It’s Shrek; he’s cool.” Nevaeh (10)
“I think it’s gonna be really hype. Since I’m in Hip Hop we have a lot of practice time outside of school, so we practice 6th period, Wednesday mornings, and after school a lot of the days so we’re really prepared for the rallies. We also have a lot of good songs and choreo, so I think it’s going to be really good.” Sophia Hyde (10)
“It’s about Shrek, I think it will turn out good.” Trent (10)
What is it like to set up these rallies, and what factors contribute to their success?
“I am excited to see everyone’s spirit! I think it’s going to go great, and everyone is going to show massive support. For rallies, we set up posters, and we plan the events.” Henry Ambler (9)
“In ASB to prepare for the rallies each class is required to create posters related to their given character and make their class section as hype as possible. The commissioners have to go through a big setup process while each class is required to do a backboard directed by the class’s president and vice president. I’m overall looking forward to all the grades showing their spirit, my work being displayed since I’m art commissioner, and to see all the fall sports present.” Nathaniel Alcocer (9)
“It’s super stressful but a lot of fun. We just have to buy a lot of stuff and pick a theme and overall it matters what the student body will think. It’s kind of stressful in that sense but if you do it with the right partner it’s super exciting. Setting up the rallies is super hard we have to do four hours the night before and then a couple of hours in the morning of to set up and make sure all the sports are in place it’s super detailed and in-depth and you really need to get it right, but once you do it’s perfect.” Nikko Schiavone (11)

What is it like to organize these rallies every year?
“We have two commissioners that are mainly in charge of everything, and we have your class presidents and vice presidents that are in charge of your sections, and they are in charge of making sure your sections look good, and they spend a lot of quality time doing that along with class committees and getting people together to promote their class. I think rallies bring a sense of pride in your class, and I think it’s a fun environment to celebrate athletes.”
