Now, we see Emily trying to resolve the problems she has caused. However, as she matures and meets new people, events that touch her life will force her to decide whether to stay in Paris or go.
To begin the second half of season 4, Emily and Gabriel are at the ice rink on Christmas Day, planning how they will celebrate apart from each other. Emily plans to return to Chicago while Gabriel travels to Megeve. Later, when Emily arrived at the airport, her flight was canceled, so she phoned Gabriel and decided to rearrange her plans and travel to Megeve. She heads to the modest cabin to visit Camille’s family when she arrives. The next day, Gabriel, Camille, and Emily went sledding on the mountain, where Gabriel left Emily to catch up to Camille. She tried to get up and failed repeatedly, eventually giving up. Until an Italian guy named Marcello comes and helps her get up and helps her through the mountain. Emily angrily approaches Gabriel and breaks up with him after realizing that she will always be the second choice in the relationship, and travels back to Paris.
As she tries to move on, Emily is reunited with Marcello during an afternoon polo game, which ignites a spark. As they spent more time together before he left for Italy, he asked Emily if she wanted to travel with him. The more she considered his question, the more she decided to ask her supervisor for a few days off. She asked for confirmation if she would see Marcello, but Emily lied about where she was going. When she traveled to Italy to visit Marcello, who greeted her warmly, she had a fantastic time with him. Still, it was disrupted when her boss came over once she found out Emily was in Italy to see him and inform her that a competitor firm was attempting to sign with Marcello’s company. She offered to ask him to reconsider and go with Agence Grateau instead. Marcello gets the incorrect impression and is dissatisfied, leaving Emily speechless. She later met Marcello in his hometown, where he promised to take her. She saw his mother first, then him. Marcello loosened up and forgave him; by the end, he had taken her to his house, where she had seriously thought about what her employer was feeling and had taken the risk of speaking with Marcello to rescue his firm. However, it crushed him again, and he urged her to go. Emily apologized and went to her room after realizing her mistake. The next day, he informed Emily that his mother had overheard the conversation and agreed to meet with her. Emily dialed her boss as soon as she got the news to set up a meeting with his mother. As they discussed what they could do for the firm, she agreed. Though Marcello thought wrong for the third time, which was frustrating, she accepted it and proceeded to the celebratory party. She informed her boss of what had transpired until she saw Marcello enter the party with a pleasant smile; she approached him and declared her desire to be with him.
As the season ended, Emily’s boss sought a meeting with her and two coworkers to discuss something important. As they chatted, she revealed that she planned to open an Agence Grateau in Italy since Marcello’s mother wanted Emily here for the account. After some thought, she accepted the new situation and began her new life in Italy with her new love, Marcello.
