As if the utter and complete destruction of Palestine and its people (more than 41,000 people murdered, the majority of women and children)wasn’t enough, Israel has now set its sights on the innocent citizens of Lebanon. The irony? Israel has precisely the same reason they used to commit very obvious war crimes on Palestinians: terrorist groups that have nothing to do with the people. As citizens say the IDF doesn’t defend its people; it hurts others.
Around October 2023, while people in the US were getting ready for Halloween by watching horror movies, the civilians of Palestine had to live through much worse. This was when the bombings began, and they have yet to stop. Just as Israel had done with Gaza, it is now doing to Beirut and aiming for places that have nothing to do with their “reasons.” They targeted children and women in Palestine, and they’re targeting centers of Aid for Lebanon. For Gaza, it was Hamas, and for Beirut, it was Hezbollah. Hezbollah is a Lebanese Shia Islamist political party and paramilitary group. For years, they have been trading bullets with the IDF. However, a fact that doesn’t seem to add up is the location of the bombings. Very ironically, Israel bombed Lebanon’s biggest Palestine refugee camp. A location that had very little to do with the Hezbollah-Israel conflict.
About 12 Lebanese people died, and around nine were severely injured in the most recent attack. And so far, there’s no end in sight. Beirut prepares for another attack as Israel hails airstrikes. They are attacking densely packed Lebanese cities. Attacks are so unpredictable the people of Lebanon are forced to take shelter in the streets of the capital, unsure if even that is a safe space. On the same note, the conditions in Palestine keep getting worse. The siege of Northern Gaza continues as before. Hamas is still not surrendering, giving the IDF an excuse to continue this genocide. As bombs still scrape the sky and as the blood of these people decorate the land, Israel does not and will not stop.
Countries such as the US, the UK, and Germany keep supplying Israeli forces with the weapons behind these heinous crimes, and they don’t plan on stopping. And those who try and aid Palestine will more than likely suffer the same fate as Lebanon. Turkey speaks out as well, claiming that there never will be peace in the Middle East until Israel decides to stop this form of blood lust. Jews and Muslims are all facing hate crimes regarding these issues. But at times such as these, only working together can help. Many Jews in the US don’t stand by Israel’s actions, claiming that it is only right and comparing this to the holocaust and stating that their ancestors would never want them to support such cruelty, and it is truly heartwarming to see. What Israel is doing is wrong, and you don’t have to be a certain gender, age, sexuality, or religion to know and acknowledge this.
