Santiago junior Remaya Cambell won the annual “Blacks In Government”, “B.I.G”, Rhetorical and Website competition for region 9 of the association that consists of Southern California, Hawaii, Arizona, Colorado and Nevada. This would be the 2nd consecutive year that Campbell has won the competition for her region.
While she failed to succeed at nationals last year Campbell has high hopes for this year’s national competition in Dallas, Texas as she has garnered an improved understanding of the competition and the rules involved. The winner of the national competition receives a $1000 scholarship.
I absolutely believe I have a better chance this year,” said Campbell “I’m ready to take home that $1000!”
Campbell attributes her success in the competion to her previous involvments in theatre at Santiago. She compares her participation in the Rhetorical competition to a performances that she would act out in her theatre classes
The organization “B.I.G” aims to encourage the advancement of African American cultures in the state and federal government. B.I.G is a culmination of 12 regions which spans across the united states.
