Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has already created a name for himself on this planet, and the same is true with Donald Trump. Elon Musk is the CEO of Space X, Tesla, and has bought Twitter/X. Trump was president from 2016 to 2020 and is returning for his second term; now, he is the current president from 2024 to 2028. Ultimately, the two are iconic, even more iconic together, but recently, the two cannot separate. Everywhere you see Trump, Elon is beside his shoulder like a parrot. He also helped support Trump’s campaign and has been growing on Trump so much that Trump has named Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy the head of “Department Of Government Efficiency.” Or, for short, “DOGE.” DOGE coincidentally hints at Dogecoin, the cryptocurrency that was skyrocketed and popularized by Elon Musk.
One might ask what the “Department of Government Efficiency” means. It is an administration controlled by Musk and Ramaswamy, where they moderate the government’s spending. Trump noticed that the government spends money in unknown places. The Department of Government Efficiency will regulate spending, which will help America’s debt. This is the first time this system has been implemented or proposed. Elon proposed the idea to Trump first, and Trump went with it.
The goal is to cut costs around federal spending that is deemed unnecessary. They plan to cut “the 500 billion-plus in annual federal expenditures that are unauthorized by Congress or being used in ways that Congress never intended.” Said Musk and Ramaswamy. In the long run, DOGE said they will reportedly save 500 billion dollars for America. That’s what DOGE plans on saving; it’s nothing compared to how much the government has spent. All of the savings from DOGE will allegedly be finished by July 4, 2026. This can all be seen on X/Twitter, where Trump stated, “Importantly, we will drive out the massive waste and fraud which exists throughout our annual 6.5 Trillion Dollars of Government Spending.” He also said, “Their work will conclude no later than July 4, 2026.”
Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have a part in this, but they are only recommendations. In other words, they can only recommend what to cut costs on. The two don’t make the financial decisions; Trump does that. They aren’t a part of the government. Nonetheless, they will still be a huge influence on Trump and will think of him.
The areas they are cutting costs are different from what you think. The main issue is that there are programs that are expired. Meaning they are programs that are still active but are outdated authorizations. There are many expired programs, but these are the significant few. It’s “Veterans Health Care, Opioid Treatment and Drug Development, Housing Assitance.” The list goes on. To be exact, the most expensive one is $119 billion. A big shocker is also NASA, they use $25 billion dollars! These top programs use tens of billions of dollars, and they are the key areas that DOGE plans to remove. Trump sure has come back into office with quite a statement.
