Election Day is one of the most important or detrimental days for American Citizens because it sets the tone for the next four years in the United States. Often, young adults can’t wait to vote and contribute their vote to a new America with their new president. It is an excellent opportunity for a new generation to put in their new and refreshing options on politics and an introduction to it. This year has been rocky with the presidential election between former Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. It has led to a great division between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. Both candidates have different ideals for running the country, causing bias when one’s beliefs align with a candidate’s. This meant people were eager to vote because they would get a president swayed by their beliefs.
Votes Not Counted?
There has been a recent uproar on social media where people report voting, but when checking their vote status, it counted as “unaccounted for.” People have been highly vocal and questioning what is happening with the status of their votes. Last month, there was a recent report of a “postal carrier dumping 1,000 pieces of mail, including a ballot, in Florida woods” to worsen the issue. Many have speculated that President Trump has cheated because of the coincidental loss of ballots and to have some play and purposeful doing in his recent success in the presidential election, especially all over social media, whether that is out of anger or loss or actual evidence.
The outrage over the confused voters’ status has mostly been a false alarm. California is an example due to its long period of ballot counting. It took approximately 11 days after the closing of the polls, with additional days, to reach the point where Trump was elected before the counting had begun.
However, a prominent example of tampering with votes to sway a state’s party has been shown through the explosion of ballot boxes in Oregon and Washington. CNN reported that hundreds of them were in
the ballot boxes “that were set on fires were started by devices placed outside the drop boxes” attached to the side of the boxes. This has led to a significant amount of propaganda and speculation that President Donald Trump had a hand in the explosion of ballots in very democratic states. Especially after his loss to former President Joe Biden, where after Trumps lose he “ made unsubstantiated claims of widespread election fraud
In reality, the debate has left people frazzled and scared for their future with both candidates; either side has something to lose. On one hand, one is a known criminal and has been questioned for cheating during the election. The other has unclear intentions for the presidency and the not-so-great help from social media that likes to stir the pot about anything that can start any source of drama. This could lead to a spur-of-the-moment blame on anything fishy in an attempt to have their supported candidate win by any chance or means, whether that be prior Vice President Kamala Harris or now President Trump. Elections are a scary time with a total power shift and different beliefs from different presidents. Why wouldn’t people be scared?
