What does the flipped plane mean for Delta Airlines?
On February 17, 2025, Delta Connection Flight 4819 crashed in Toronto. They flipped over after sliding across the runway. “The Delta flight skidded along the runway in flames before flipping over and coming to a dramatic halt upside down, losing its tail and an entire wing in the process” bbc.com. Most passengers escaped unscathed. On the flight, there was a total of 80 people, 76 passengers, and four crew members, who survived the fiery crash. A Delta Airlines plane flipped on the runway. Delta Airlines has had several plane crashes under its company, with the collision before that happening on September 10, 2024, when an Airbus A350 collided with a Bombardier CRJ900. “On the morning of September 10, a Delta Air Lines Airbus A350 and a Delta CRJ-900 Regional jet aircraft were involved in a ground collision. The widebody aircraft sustained minor damage to one of its wings. Still, the regional aircraft had its tail section ripped off, as seen in images and videos circulated widely on social media” simpleflying.com. With this crash happening only months before, people wonder how Delta will respond. Will they upgrade their equipment, change their plane type, or even their flying patterns?
It’s not very clear what exactly caused the plane crash, but fortunately, even though the plane flipped, everyone aboard the aircraft survived with minor injuries, so there will be witnesses. “Video has surfaced showing the plane landing. It landed hard, and the starboard main gear broke off, causing the starboard wingtip to impact the ground. The wing broke off, and a fire ignited. The plane then rolled over to starboard and came to rest on its back (roof).
The question is, what happened in the moments before touchdown? The flight and voice recorders will tell the tale as they often do. The crew and all aboard have survived, so witness statements will appear. This one will be solved, and the Canadian TSB will reach a definitive probable cause determination. Although all of the people on the plane survived, there were still 18 passengers who were taken to the hospital. “Survivors said they were suspended upside down in their seats and had to release themselves, dropping onto the ceiling before clambering out onto the snow-
covered tarmac. Eighteen people were injured, but only a small number are thought to be seriously hurt, and investigators are looking into what caused the crash” bbc.com. All passengers and crew members survived, but some were still injured, and some were seriously injured. There haven’t been any updates on what caused the crash. Was it the pilot’s fault, or maybe just the weather conditions? “Toronto Airport Fire Chief Todd Aitken said Monday that the runway was dry and there were no crosswind conditions during the crash. When asked Tuesday if the runway had light snow or slush, he deferred the question to investigators”. This quote shows the weather conditions weren’t harsh enough to cause the plane to be blown off course. There could be a chance that the problem has to do with personnel on the flight, such as the pilot.
With all the information shown, the cause of the crash hasn’t been answered yet, and there is much speculation about what happened. Luckily, everyone survived, with just a few having significant injuries. Further questions will be asked, and hopefully, there will be an answer on what caused the plane to crash.
