Will AI take over the world?
How is AI taking over the industry of labor, health, and even everyday tasks?
AI is changing how we work, get healthcare, and go about daily life by automating routine tasks, analyzing data to support decision-making, and improving efficiency. While it can make things easier and free up time, it also raises questions about its impact on jobs and human involvement in essential processes. Now, ask yourself if that sentence was AI. Probably not, right? ChatGPT, an AI chatbot, created that sentence.
Many companies have started using AI to help them. “AI is changing the way we work, get healthcare, and go about daily life by automating routine tasks, analyzing data to support decision-making, and improving efficiency. While it can make things easier and free up time, it also raises questions about its impact on jobs and human involvement in important processes” builtin.com. This shows how much of an impact AI is making on the world. AI has been changing at such a rapid pace. Companies are also laying off workers to replace them with AI. “The widespread adoption of artificial intelligence has promised to create new jobs and make workers more productive, but these changes have come with a cost. A 2023 ResumeBuilder survey found that 37 percent of companies using AI replaced workers with the technology, and 44 percent anticipated AI-induced layoffs in 2024,” builtin.com. This shows that if AI continues to grow as fast as it is now, it could eventually lead to humans being almost entirely out of work.
There is no doubt that AI will continue to grow in the future. Although AI can have some downsides, such as putting people out of work, it has some upsides. AI gives people new access to care that we couldn’t do before or that was very difficult to do. “One of the biggest impacts of AI in healthcare is improved access to care for many people, such as those who live in rural or underserved areas without many medical professionals or specialists in close proximity.” With the use of AI, there will come tremendous growth to healthcare. AI is also helping out medical staff by freeing up their time. “similarly, AI-driven solutions (e.g., chatbots) are now being used as virtual assistants to help schedule appointments for patients, provide next-step guidance or even offer basic healthcare information. This can help free up certain medical staff and allow them to focus on other patient-centric priorities and care for more patients at a time.” AI is helping out with healthcare in many different ways. AI also makes healthcare more proactive. There are many cons and pros to the use of AI.
AI also helps with everyday tasks; from waking up to putting your head on the pillow and going to bed, AI is always there working. “AI is here to help simplify your daily routines to create a smoother experience. From managing your calendar and scheduling appointments to setting reminders and organizing to-do lists, AI-powered virtual assistants have become your personal productivity allies. With natural language processing and machine learning capabilities, these assistants understand your preferences and adapt to your needs, ensuring you stay on top of your tasks effortlessly.” morgan.edu. AI can help with very confusing tasks as well as straightforward tasks.
At the end of the day, whether people like it or not, AI will always be there. It is not going anywhere anytime soon. There are downsides, but there are also some upsides.
