The Rock Solid Christian Club at Santiago High School is a student-led, Christian-based organization that fosters a welcoming and positive student environment. It provides a space where members can form meaningful friendships, strengthen their relationship with God through prayer, Bible study, and fellowship, and support one another during life’s challenges. The club offers comfort during tough times and celebrates the joy of growing closer to God as a community. Every Friday during office hours, students can deepen their understanding of God’s Word, develop lasting prayer habits, and engage in service projects. Above all, the club strives to be a guiding light within the school, spreading kindness, love, and a sense of purpose rooted in faith. Now, let’s hear what some of the leaders from The Rock Solid Christian Club have to say!
Jonathan Davitt: President (24-25)
What was your main goal as President, and do you feel you’ve achieved it?
“Last year, I’d say an average of 10 people, and now we have an average of 50 to 60 people every time, and just sharing the word of God is very important, especially to our club, because we want people to know God more.”
How did your faith guide your leadership decisions throughout the year?
“I say my faith got my leadership decisions throughout the year just because I always want to make sure I include God and, you know, no matter what I do. So, just asking for prayer, what’s like, what sermons to do, or whether it’s you know, doing the little things, just having my faith in God, just really helping make decisions. God is helping me.”
Natalie Hernandez: Vice President (24-25)
How do you support the president in their role, and how would you work together to lead the club?
“How I support the president and their role as being more helpful and respectful, and a good team player with the rest of the leaders, I share ideas and help with whatever needs to be done so we can lead the club together and make it great. Another important detail for sure is to make sure that people who are interested in the club feel comfortable and have a safe place.”
How do you believe the club has contributed to the school environment or made a difference in students’ lives?
“I believe this club has affected people’s lives, as more people have come in each Friday just to listen and read God’s word, which is huge. But the club could expand regarding the environment by hosting more events and sharing the faith with more students outside of the meetings.”
Joey Merrit: Creative Director 24-25
What has been the most rewarding part of leading the Christian club during your time here?
“I’d say the most rewarding part of leading the Christian Club has been the experience, being able to meet some amazing people, and bringing people to a new stage in their faith. I’ve been praying for people, helping them get through serious things in their lives, which I feel has been an honor and a blessing. To me, being able to help people through these circumstances and just being able to see them through their faith.”
What challenges did you face as a leader, and how did you overcome them?
“I had to take it upon myself to manage the club and put everything in the right place where it should have been. Eventually, I was able to talk with my fellow club members, and we were able to sort things out, and we were able to all take an equal load of what we do, and it was just nice talking to them to get the club where we wanted it to be.”
Owen Allen: President 25-26
What is your vision for the club, and what key goals do you hope to accomplish this year?
“My main goal is to help people grow in their faith, be bold in their faith, and apply Christian living to their everyday life.”
What new ideas or activities would you bring to the club to keep it exciting and engaging for members?
“I would love to have more prayer groups or cards, to send prayer requests and get us involved in their lives and praying for the members.”
Rachel Swangel: Vice President 25-26
As vice president, how would you demonstrate leadership and initiative when the president is unavailable or needs help?
“I would step in and stay organized to make sure everything still runs smoothly, and communicate with the other officers of the club. Just run as if the president were there.”
How will you help build strong relationships between the members, ensuring they feel united in their shared purpose?
“I want to create an open and welcoming community for Christians and non-Christians who are interested in learn about Christianity. We will also be team bonding, prayer groups, organizing hangouts, and events.”
Finally, I’m deeply grateful to be joining this incredible club as next year’s Creative Director. I’m excited to support and inspire students as they grow in their faith and discover the excellent plans God has in store for us! Joining the Rock Solid Christian Club at Santiago High School is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn more about the gospel, meet new people with similar beliefs, and deepen their relationship with God and their faith!
We’re looking forward to meeting all of you at club rush!
