Mother’s Day is a heartfelt celebration dedicated to honoring the incredible love and sacrifices that mothers make. Celebrated each year on the second Sunday of May in the U.S., this day is a time to show appreciation for the mothers who have shaped our lives with their unconditional love, support, and guidance. People give gifts, write cards, and spend time with their moms to express thanks for everything they have done for them.
I interviewed a few students about their moms and how they celebrate Mother’s Day. We’ll hear personal stories which reflect the deep bonds between children and their mothers, the special traditions they share, and the meaningful ways they express their gratitude. These stories remind us that Mother’s Day is not just a celebration, but an opportunity to show the mothers we love how much they truly mean to us.
How do you usually celebrate Mother’s Day with your mom? Are there any special traditions that you have?

“How I celebrate Mother’s Day with my mom is that we get her flowers from each person and write her a card with all of our names on it, along with any message we want. Afterwards, we go and take her out to eat.”Sydnee Huynh (10)
“I usually wake up in the morning a little bit early, and I make her coffee; she loves that. And then my sister and I will go pick her flowers or buy her a bouquet.” Nevaeh (10)
“I usually go with her to my grandparents’ house and we all have dinner and watch a movie, and we all go pick flowers for one of them, and then exchange them into bouquets.” Paetyn (10)
Is there a specific memory or moment with your mom that stands out to you, something that makes you appreciate her even more?
“A specific moment that I have with my mom is probably when I was eight years old and I had a nose bleed, and I woke up, and ran downstairs. She told me to lay on her lap and she just told me that it’s okay because I was crying and I was freaking out because it was the first nose bleed I’ve ever had.” Sydnee Huynh (10)
“She’s hard working, she always makes sure we have what we need and more.” Nevaeh (10)
“When I had my first bad breakup with one of my friends, she was there constantly, always reassuring me everything would be okay. So whatever after that moment, she’s always stuck by my side when I’ve had arguments with my friends.” Paetyn (10)
What are some things you love the most about your mom that you like to acknowledge on Mother’s Day?
“Something I love the most about my mom is how determined she is; she came here from Vietnam, and she is an immigrant. So her coming here for school and just to have a better life for her future kids in general is just really inspiring to me. That’s what I take from her. Her determination to push through the hard times and learning a whole new language, I appreciate that.” Sydnee Huynh (10)
“Whenever I’m not feeling well or not having the best day, she will always buy me food, and I’m big, so it’s nice.” Nevaeh (10)
“How understanding she is, the way I can talk to her without feeling any sort of embarrassment, and knowing she’s always there.” Paetyn (10)
How has your mom’s influence played a role in shaping the person you are today?
“I’d say the amount of yelling that she gave me. She disciplined me a lot, which, if I hadn’t gotten that discipline, then I wouldn’t be the person that I am today. I wouldn’t know the difference between right and wrong, which I know a lot of people struggle with.” Sydnee Huynh (10)
“My mom is very hard working and she never gives up, and she’s also very competitive and makes me strive to be better.” Nevaeh (10)
“Her being there for me constantly and always having my back for things shapes me the person I am today, because it allows me to be the same way with someone else.” Paetyn (10)
In conclusion, Mother’s Day is a special opportunity to recognize the love, sacrifices, and support they give us. It’s a time to show appreciation, through gifts, heartfelt cards, or simply spending time together. The stories shared remind us that this day is more than just a celebration; it’s a chance to express how much our mothers truly mean to us and how grateful we are for all they do.
I would like to thank my Mom for inspiring me to write this article. Without her love and support, none of this would be possible. She is very kind, caring, and hard working, and inspires me to strive to be a better person every day. Thank you so much, and Happy Mother’s Day! I love you, Mommy!
