As the day draws nearer, and with ticket sales ending Wednesday Oct. 23, many people have been dying to hear the big question: Will you go to homecoming with me?
From writing on t-shirts to giving roses and cards, boys and girls alike have asked their dates to this year’s Homecoming dance in different, but creative ways. One of the most popular ways of finding a date is writing the question on a poster, but the way they present the poster is what makes their proposal unique.
A common courteous gesture when asking someone to homecoming, is giving him or her sweets. Kurt Stewart (10) brought a box of doughnuts to school one morning, as a special treat for Cassie Brower (10), but with a surprise inside. As they met up in the hallway during their daily routine, he opened the box and the question popped out in the form of a cute pop-up.
Sweets are a great gift to go with being asked, but a public gesture is what most girls hope for. Being the most publicized of all, Matt Stewart (12) asked his girlfriend, Allison Deicks (12), after the home football game of Santiago v. Roosevelt. As the game ended he walked over to her for a routine “good game” hug and kiss, but this time Stewart had something else in mind. Just a few feet away from Deicks, Stewart stopped in his tracks, turned around, and lifted his jersey to reveal a poster beneath saying, “Homecoming?”
After eager anticipation, boys and girls have been preparing for their memorable night under the stars. With “Drops of Jupiter” fast approaching, Homecoming is coming up faster than the speed of light. ASB advised students to be prepared for a chilly night under the sky with their date.
