Abel Tesfaye, better known by his stage name The Weeknd, recently announced that his first show in two years is being cancelled.
As he slowly attempts to end his career, he has announced his final tour, including his first show at the Rose Bowl on January 25th. Due to the ongoing fires in early January, he postponed his upcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, and cancelled his first show. The Los Angeles County fires have damaged more than 12,000 structures and left many people displaced because of their severity.
Out of respect to all fire victims, the Weeknd cancelled his first show to let the Rose Bowl help the community. On his Instagram, he said, “Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, I am cancelling the Rose Bowl concert originally scheduled for January 25th. This city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time. In light of this, I have also decided to push the release of my album to January 31st. My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding their incredible people as they rebuild.”
Although many fans were disheartened and devastated by the news, many understood and respected his decision. This situation can build a perspective for many people about how fortunate they are to have a concert getting cancelled as their primary concern in their lives. Los Angeles County has since been doing much better. Thousands of people everywhere have donated and started charities to help fund and aid the city’s recovery.
Since then, The Weeknd has also reassured his fans that all money will be given back, and he has more exciting announcements regarding his tour, which will take place later in the year.
The cancellation of the show has sparked a lot of controversy among fans. Many people have saved up for so long to be able to come, and other fans are flying from different countries for it. Abel has repeatedly apologized to his fans for it, but many people are still heavily confused and disappointed.
But what many people don’t understand is that the venue the Weeknd was going to have his concert at, the Rose Bowl, is being used to shelter, give food, and help many Los Angeles residents recover from their awful situation because of where they live. Abel cancelled his show to protect other people and promised to give exceptional shows at his tours and a fantastic album to make up for this to many fans. He described his last album as a story of all the chapters he has had in his music career. This is his last album as an artist, which is why so many people were disappointed by the show being cancelled in Los Angeles. In light of this situation, it just gives his fans a reason to look forward to everything he has planned for his last tour.
