Auditions came and went; over fifty young actors and actresses auditioned and only 19 made the cast. Miss Beyer (Overall Director) and Mrs. Garret (Music Director) slaved over casting for twenty-four hours until the deadline came and they had to make their decisions final. The cast list went up Friday morning on February 6 and it read:

The first rehearsal took place on Thursday, February 9 after school, and after reading through the script they began choreography for the opening number “13/ Becoming a man.” Flo Schinoff (12) auditioned and was vying for the role of Kendra, however, she is now content and if not more excited to portray Simon, a tom boy best friend of Brett, as well as choreographing the entire musical.
Natalie Iacobellis (12) received the exact role she auditioned for, Kendra the good girl, and is thrilled to be starring in her first musical.
“This role is so fun and cute. I don’t think I could be any happier with the casting. I am also excited to be performing with such experienced actors. I’m hoping the show will turn out great “ Iacobellis (12) said.
Rosie Perez (11) chose to no longer be featured in these articles. Now we will be following Anthony Rondon (12) whom will be playing the leading role of Evan Goldman.
“I am so incredibly excited but also a bit nervous to be playing Evan. Don’t get me wrong I am happy and grateful but it’s a lot of pressure to perform well. However I am excited to have a scene with the character Lucy since the girl portraying her and I have never gotten to do a scene together. It’s going to be a good show,” Rondon (12) said.
The cast danced through the first week of rehearsals and is now heading into crunch time as opening night approaches. In less than a month the curtain will rise on the cast of “13 the Musical” as they explore what it means to be 13.
Performances begin on April 16, 17, and 18 at 7 pm in the Santiago theatre; doors open at 6:30pm tickets are sold at the door.
