On Saturday, February 28, the freshman honors program, Skull Island, explored the dormant, exotic, and exciting Pisgah Volcano. This volcano is located above the High Desert terrain, which is about two to three hours away from Corona. The volcano was filled with various underground caves, which the students went into; some of the caves had some people crawling on their hands and knees! Also, some students described this field trip as adventurous, fun, and overall an amazing experience.
“It erupted about 50,000 years ago.” Says Mr. Tuttle, the creator of the program, who experienced his last visit to the volcano that Saturday.
“How’d you’re your shirt get all torn up?” asked a student.
“Oh I was crawling and my shirt got caught on this sharp rock in this extremely small cave called M.F.” Said another student excitingly.
“We have to come back in junior year, so we can all drive up to the volcano again and go into more caves.” Said multiple students from the program.
Another great part of the field trip was having the privilege of experiencing it with Mr. Tuttle. The students and teachers were so happy that Mr. Tuttle got to have a memorable last experience to the Pisgah Volcano.
“I was so happy that Mr. Tuttle got to see a goat his last year, he’s been wanting to see that goat for years now.” Said various teachers running the Skull Island program.
“He created the program many years ago… it’s like his baby.” Said a teacher from the program.
Overall the Pisgah Volcano field trip was an astonishing, beautiful sight that the “explorers” will never forget.
