March 14, 2015 the Revolution began, born from the needle-pricked fingers of tireless designers and introduced into society by its humble caretakers, the models.
The Fashion Show was an enormous success with the theater packed almost to full capacity with family, friends and students supporting either the designers or the models. Excitement was in the atmosphere, while chaos erupted behind the scenes as both models and designers scrambled to make last minutes perfections for the runway. Fabric was torn, makeup was smeared, but all the pieces eventually fell into place. The designers were from class levels one and two and judges consisted of faculty members as well as former class members of the fashion class, many of whom currently attend FIDM for further instruction in the fashion industry.
The designs were unique to each designer, inspired by themes such as Industrialization or Steam punk. The models would come out with props, but Madison Smitley stole the show with her unique presentation and line as they dimmed the lights for a spectacular finale. The judges then took 5 minutes to deliberate allowing everyone to take a brief recess. Tensions were high and the adrenaline was rushing when the hosts called for silence to announce the winners.
Kristopher James (12) and Madison Smith (12), for the first time in Santiago history, were tied for ready to wear category. Kendra Aguirre (10) won two awards Haut Couture and Most Original, another Santiago Fashion Department first. Madison Smitley took home Best in Show. All the designers were applauded for their outstanding designs and presentation.
“I thought that the best designs were Cierra Wilson and Madison Smitley. I was blown away,” said Amber Mckenzie.
“The fashion show was amazing. I loved all the designs and all the collections for every single designer. I loved how there were a lot of bold pieces and statement outfits. I would wear all the clothes in a heartbeat,” concluded Jessica Khalili.
Overall, the fashion show was a mind-blowing experience.
