Unfriended is about high school students being haunted by a girl they used to bully. These groups of kids posted an embarrassing video of Laura Barn. She begged them to delete the video, however their responses were telling her to go kill herself. This led to her suicide.
A year later, the group of kids got a message on Skype from Laura Barn. Thinking it was only a hacker, the group played along with her games and started to realize later on that it was Laura Barn haunting them. She wanted her vengeance against them, so she exposed all their dark secrets to each other. Knowing these secrets, you could not connect with any of the characters. Whoever loses the game would die. If anyone of them logged off, they would die too.
The movie showed the perspective of Blaire’s computer desktop, who was Laura’s best friend. The girl who played Blaire was Shelley Hennig, and she did a great job in portraying a fearful character. However, it continued to show Blaire typing, deleting, and retyping things, which was unnecessary. And just seeing a computer screen was not intriguing to the audience. The beginning was slow and only had a few jump scares. The ending was typical on showing the ghost of Laura Barns.
The director, Levan Gabriadze, could have done a better job in executing the movie in a more exciting way rather than watching it from a computer screen. However, it could have just been a horrible story plot. It was a predictable movie that had a few jump scares. Even kids in the theater were not impressed or even frightened. This movie needed more action and it was more of a PG-13 movie rather than a rated R one.
