This past Friday, Santiago kicked off its 5th Annual Powderpuff Football: Class of 2015 against Class of 2016, was surely a game to remember. The stands were filled with students from all classes, excited to see not only the game, but the male cheerleaders. The cheerleaders performed a wonderful routine at halftime that gave them a run for their money. Ryder Laracco (12) was a featured tumbler, who caught the audience’s attention with his incredible stunts. Mr. Leduc was the play-by-play announcer, giving the game more of a friendly feel by cracking some funny jokes.
The start of the game was shaky as the senior team had a lot of miscommunication on the field. But as the quarter went on, both teams seemed to pick up the pace. With 40 seconds left in the second quarter, Maddy Haro (12) took the kick return all the way to the house, which put the seniors on top 28-14 by halftime. Although the underdogs of the game, the juniors continued to put on a fight. Blue Kim (11) and Natalie Morrell (11) were the key players that helped lead the junior team. The game ended with a score of 45-33 with the seniors coming out with the victory.
“I had a lot of fun playing both my junior and senior year. It was a great high school experience that I will never forget,” said Kyliegh Cavazos (12).
