Scream Queens has been gaining a whole lot of attention ever since the promo posters were released on Twitter, Instagram, etc. The show has the qualities that a successful TV show needs: a star-studded cast, an amazing director (Brad Falchuk, director of Glee), and a very interesting story. So was this show really that good? Did it lead up to everyone’s expectations?
The biggest and best part of this show is the cast. Chanel 1, portrayed by Emma Roberts, is the head of the sorority KKT. Grace played by, new actress, Skyler Samuels, is the nice girl. Hester, played by Glee’s Lea Michele, was the weirdest character on the show. She has a neck brace and is obsessed with death. Boone, played by Nick Jonas, is a jock who might be gay? This leaves both Boone and audiences very confused. Lastly, Dean Cathy, played by Freaky Friday’s and Halloween’s, Jamie Lee Curtis, plays the mysterious, strict, and oddly charming Dean of students.
All these actors and actresses each played their characters very well. The best were the leading ladies. Each one of them played different and unique characters. Emma Roberts was so far one of the greatest characters and the one that got you most intrigued. She perfectly portrayed a typical, backstabbing, mean girl. Nick Jonas did good as Boone, a popular jock who didn’t get a whole lot of screen time in the series premiere. The camera shots were fantastic and unlike any other shows out there. It had the camera shots of a teen movie and some dark elements just like a horror movie. It was visually stunning.
Another good quality are the sets. Each scene fitted the characters and their costumes. The sorority was pink, light purple, and white, just like the popular sorority girls. The basement was dark, creepy, and unclean, like a horror movie basement. One of the most heart-pounding scenes was whenever the murder or the Red Devil man would appear. Whoever he or she is, it made the characters and audience alike feel pretty terrified. Overall, the sets, cast, and camera shots made this series premiere a success.
The series premiere did deliver a good back-story and a cliffhanger that will leave you speechless. However it did have its problems. The story was kind of predictable, but still have its mysteries. It didn’t have enough horror like what many were expecting. There weren’t a lot of cons to this show but the future does seem bright for this series.
The plot of this show seemed to be an amazing idea. A sorority house that has a haunting back-story that is being attacked by an unknown murder who wears a red devil costume, but there was much more than this. It starts out in 1995 wear the sorority girls of that time are throwing a party and one of them ends up having a baby in the upstairs bathtub. The party was apparently so much fun that they let the girl bleed out and she dies in the bathtub. Twenty years later, Emma Roberts’s character, Chanel 1, is the head of KKT, along with her small army of Chanels, Chanel 2 – 5. When it’s0 time for more girls to enroll in the sorority, the dean of students announces at the rush party that anyone who wants to recruit in KKT is allowed too. This makes Chanel 1 very angry and plans to pull a prank with the maid of the sorority, Ms. Bean, and the prank ends up not going as planned. This is when a series of unfortunate events begin. The main question is who is in the red devil costume and what is their purpose for doing these things to KKT?
This show really is fantastic and did deliver. It introduced the perfect combo of horror and comedy. Scream Queens airs Tuesday’s 9/8c, on FOX.
