“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is setting a new record for the all-time box office record for pre-sales weeks before it even opens in theaters. The film’s already sold $50 million worth of tickets worldwide with about a third of those tickets being IMAX screenings.
The movie is on its way to becoming highest-grossing movie of all time, but we won’t know for sure until the film releases in December. With a $300 million first week prediction in America, the film is bound to make serious bank. Worldwide, according to Deadline.com, it’s set to make $6.5 billion.
BoxOffice.com is overwhelmed with the amount of statistics sent in by both experts and fans alike, but their prediction for first week sales is low, around the $215 million mark.
The previous record, set by Jurassic World, knocked out only $1.6 billion worldwide. However, Star Wars, essentially the most beloved franchise of all time, is sure to smash Jurassic World’s meager record.
Since the Star Wars release is happening at Christmas – more time for movie-goers to catch the film – the odds a certainly in their favor. Disney seems to have hit the jackpot after scoring Luscafilm at a mere 4 billion dollar bargain.
