RCC Band Festival
Tuesday, March 1st, the RCC Band Festival and Clinic introduced an opportunity for many bands to receive criticism on their proficiency in a varying range of music. The music chosen by Santiago’s band included three tunes: “Epic Venture,” “Carried on the Wings of Hope,” and “Sketches of Canada,” an arrangement of three popular Canadian folk songs. These were “The False Young Man,” “Maid on the Shore,” and “Bold Wolfe.” Each song was a stylistically different tune and provided a different challenge for Santiago.
After the performance, the bands were directed to the clinic where they received criticism and had each mistake revised. With limited time, the clinic was cut short. After a quick break, the band listened as Symphonic Band performed. Shortly after, Santiago’s band was taken back to the school. Unfortunately, they were locked outside of Santiago’s front gate until it was opened from the inside.
Wednesday, Santiago’s band received a recording of their performance was commented by one of the judges, Tom Cole. Having assisted Santiago’s band with its marching season, the many members were pleasantly surprised. Having reviewed Tom’s remarks, the band has further improved their ability and expertise in their three songs.
