Wednesday, March 9th, Santiago held it’s annual Open House, starting off with Dr. Lewis addressing parents in the gym.
This year’s open house though, was different. Parent’s had the opportunity to earn their children their beloved HERO points. There was a scavenger hunt that parents had to turn in by the end of the night. Questions included:
1. How many classrooms did you see the Teal Common Core Strategies posted?
2. What was a Common Core Strategy you noticed in one of the display cases in the C, D, E, or F building?
3. How many teachers or administrators did you hear mention Common Core throughout the evening?
4. Find the Round 1 Winning Team for the Common Core Conquest in a display case. Which building was it in? What Team?
I think this was not only a way to see if parents were visiting every building their child has classes in, but to also observe if teachers were talking to parents about Common Core. I think this was effective way to determine this. That is, if parents actually did the scavenger hunt them-selves. You always have to check for biases, shout out to Mr. Gonzalez!
AVID also put on their own little Open House within Mr. Foster, Mr. Padilla, and Ms. Plebani’s rooms. There were groups of students who each had a different topic, ranging from Focused Notes, Why AVID, information about CSU and UC’s, and many more. It was put on extremely well, good job AVID students and teachers!
Overall, I think Open House went very well and Shark parents enjoyed seeing the progress their children have made throughout the year. Great job, staff! And a big thank you to our custodial staff for setting everything up! You guys are fintastic!
