Wednesday April 19 I was invited to go to the Unity forum in the Shark Tank for the entire day. It was a day spent discussing bullying and connecting with people, letting them know that they were not alone. It was a moving experience, listening to the Unity leaders’ stories and relating it to mine. It made me realize how lucky and blessed I am to have a wonderful life. That also means I am willing to help others in need because we are all one big family. No matter how small or how different we are, we are still people. This means we shouldn’t judge people based on what they wear, how they act, or what they believe in. That’s really the main purpose of Unity and what we did at the Unity forum. We did things like making our family using the people we know, shared our views on suicide, and discuss our likes and dislikes in life.
The experience was crazy deep, so deep that the Unity leaders came up with skits about each category: genocide, avoidance, discrimination, and abuse. Each one was just as powerful as the other. The skits basically gave you an example of the categories mentioned. Just sitting there and watching the skit hit me in a way that I kind of understand. I could imagine a boyfriend telling his girlfriend to stay away from her friends just because of their looks. Or a mom abusing her son just because he is not doing well in school even though he is trying his very best. Those skits probably had the biggest impact on the day.
In the end the true message of that forum was to not be afraid or worry. It’s up to you to make the right change in the world.
