Saturday May 7, Santiago’s marching band performed at Corona’s Cinco de Mayo parade, repeating two tunes throughout the march. These were “Army of the Nile” and “Thriller”, performed with the band’s signature Thriller dance. The same march, in fact, was performed by Santiago’s band during their Hawaii trip, winning them a nice trophy to add to their collection.
The parade started at Sheridan Park, just north of St. Edward’s Church. The parade took them along 6th Street to Corona City Park, where the parade ended. Although the parade was shorter than most parades Santiago performs in, it was important for them to march their best. The band was recorded with stationary cameras, Go-Pros on a few instruments, and through a camera drone that flew overhead. The footage captured in the parade will be submitted as an audition to the Rose Parade Committee.
After the end of the parade, the band changed out of their uniforms for the last time this year. Next year, they will be receiving new, better uniforms, for which the band directors are grateful.
