Santiago’s Change in Administration
September 30, 2016
The 2016-2017 school year premiered with a large change within Santiago’s core. The administrative members are now vastly different, with only two members holding their former positions. Some past administrators have grabbed onto new opportunities within the community, and some acquiring a different or higher title. What sparked this change? Where did everyone go?
To put it simply, the Shark infested community is evolving. Possibly the most well-known promotion amid the chaos is Mr. Bond taking on the large and well-deserved job as Principal. Mr. Bond was an Assistant Principal to Dr. Lewis prior to his acquisition of this new position. As Principal, he now must shift his focus to all the unique pieces of life at Santiago including the student body, administration, and staff. His new advancement in administration brings with it the challenge to divide his time among all aspects of Santiago, which he says can be a daunting task at times; however the evolution of Santiago’s students’ success is a contributing factor that he looks forward to most in his new position within the administration as a whole.
Administrative members Mr. Cameron and Dr. Smith are the only two members returning to their positions as Assistant Principalss and still continue to look forward to the positive direction in which Santiago is headed. Mr. Cameron feels as though the direction that was being driven in by Dr. Lewis and the previous administrative members will be continued on successfully through the new hires and the leadership of Mr. Bond.
Mr. Maine and Mrs. Harris both acquired a new position among the administration. Mr. Maine enters his third year with the Sharks but will debut with a new position as an Assistant Principal, previously being a social science teacher, football coach, and a video production teacher (Shark TV). He expresses boldness in his new position and a grand amount of determination to continue the legacy the previous administration members started. Mrs. Harris is thrilled to return to her home at Santiago from her past position as an Assistant Principal to Dorthy McElhinney Middle School and looks forward to working with the administrative team to enhance the success rates of the student body. She wishes to provide a unifying feeling among the staff due to her previous position as an AVID coordinator prior to her absence from Santiago last year.
Ms. Bako and Mr. Sampson are the fresh faces of Santiago’s administration. Mr. Sampson previously found himself in many positions among the Corona-Norco Unified School District, and was an Instructional Assistant and Site Substitute at Santiago before coming into his Special Education teaching position. He now steps into a new light as an Assistant Principal. Ms. Bako appears excited to be a part of the administration at Santiago, coming from an Assistant Principal position at the home of the Panthers, Corona High School. She is determined to face her biggest challenge head on and build relationships with the large staff and administration at Santiago, and looks forward to doing so. She also looks forward to working with Mr. Bond, a friendly face, as together they have crossed paths as Assistant Principals in the Corona-Norco Unified School District. She expresses a great amount of energy and elation to now be working at Santiago and to learn about the Shark’s pride climate.
The administration at Santiago welcomes new faces as well as those returning to previous positions, and the staff appreciates their displayed anticipation for continued success. Santiago’s greatness will only grow stronger with the administrative change. The administration team of the 2016-2017 school year at Santiago High School is a strong force to be reckoned with.
