The Turmoil of the 2016 Presidential Election

Hanna Rauls, Staff Writer

This year is one for the books when analyzing the outcomes of the 2016 presidential election. Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump are both strong competitors wreaking havoc within the nation. From the debates between the candidates, to the violent confrontations this year for the candidates proves to have harsh results.

After the first presidential debate of the 2016 election, it is obvious that the debate was truly a judgment of character rather than that of social studies or fit for office. Both candidates’ intentions weren’t to prove themselves worthy but to deem the opponent unworthy. They criticized characteristics of the other and seemed to leave out the intention for the debate. This is elementary behavior that should not be present in the presidential election.

The ideas and intentions of the candidates are vastly different and pose an immense separation among the voters’. This difference in opinion has lately been causing violent outbreaks unlike any presidential election in the previous years. Citizens of America are unable to settle their differences and accept that they don’t have the same opinion, and the opposing ideas of the candidates spark the difficulty in understanding. The candidates’ individual plans for the nation that they have briefly touched on, prove that the vast differences have caused disputes among Americans. Instead of trying to decide on a fitting candidate for the nation together, the citizens are now turning against their fellows and becoming angry and separated.

The popularity the candidates already have behind them is a contributing factor to the negativity within the election. Clinton’s husband Bill Clinton served in office for two terms, and Trump is a very well-known business man. These factors result in a large following and a lot more pressure put onto both candidates which causes already formed opinions on them without hearing their plans for America.

As presented in the presidential debate, the candidates both are known for their unfavorable traits such as dishonesty, and aggression. Both have flaws and these were used in the debate, and are constantly being brought up and disputed between not only the two candidates but America as a whole as well.

It is bluntly obvious that the 2016 election is unfolding like no other. This election is sprouting negativity everywhere and its unfavorable outcomes are ever present in today’s news.
