More Than Just Pushing a Button…
October 4, 2016
In life there will be many classes that one will have to take in high school and college. Students must take ONE art class such as visual arts, ceramics, or photography. A class that is highly recommended is photography, because there are many lessons students have to learn that are applicable in the real world. Students lacking experience in this course may say, “all you do is push a button on the camera- it’s simple”, but they couldn’t be more wrong.
In this class, students dapple with computer programs like Photoshop and Lightroom. Students first study compositions such as the rule of thirds, natural framing, leading lines, etc. Students use texture, symmetry and a variety of color schemes to improve the qualities of their photos. After taking pictures, the photographers go back to the class and upload them on their high-tech computers. On the computer there are programs such as Lightroom and Photoshop. In Lightroom, students can edit their pictures by adjusting the photo’s clarity, hue, and saturation. In Lightroom one can add filters and remove dust from ones images. Eventually, students use Photoshop and complete assignments from the teacher.
Photoshop is very intricate and mysterious – meaning students have to teach themselves how to manipulate the system. Students apply themselves by using a tutorial sight and obtain help from their friends and teacher. Photoshop makes pictures more extravagant, because you can apply images from the internet, take unwanted things out of your picture, and use amazing tools to transform the image. Some tools in Photoshop are the sharpen tool, blur tool, and type tool. The sharpen tool sharpens all of the edges in an image meanwhile the blur tool enables one to make one’s picture as blurry as one wants. The type tool allows students to type on the picture and allows them to create phrases or quotes. Furthermore, students are also assigned projects each semester. These projects are semester long and can take about two or three months to finish. The next time you think that photography is an easy course, think again!
