November 11 2016, a day before the USA was going to celebrate Veterans Day, four Americans were killed and sixteen were injured in Afghanistan because of a suicide bomber. The attack occurred at 5:30 A.M and Defense Secretary Ash Carter expressed his condolences. The attack not only took the lives of two soldiers who were stationed there but it also took the lives of two US contractors.

It was said that the attack was planned four months ago by the Taliban. This wasn’t the first attack that this area has experienced; the Taliban regularly fire rockets outside the perimeter. Before the bombing of the base, it was one of the largest “homes” for American soldiers and contractors. This attack was a follow up to a bombing that happened a day before in the Northern part of Afghanistan.  After the attack, the US Commander in Afghanistan stated that the Taliban now controlled most of the areas surrounding where they were stationed.

After the losses, the base and families faced, they continue to band together, even more determined to get the job done and maybe one day bring peace to this war-torn country.
