Shark Story: Mckenzie Moore (11)

Annie Swierczek, Staff Writer

Mckenzie Moore is a junior at Santiago High School, and can be seen wearing #9 on the field. She has been playing soccer ever since she can remember. The hard work and dedication has paid off as she is a starter of the school’s varsity team and plays for Legends FC. She recently committed to the University of Hawaii to further her soccer career.

What are you looking forward most to the most in college?

I’m looking forward to being able to play soccer at a higher level and obviously living in Hawaii for four years and the experiences I will learn from that.

What position(s) to you play?

[I play] left forward.

What major are you planning on taking in college?

I plan on taking general ed. my first year then transitioning into psychology or marine biology depending on what I excel in.

How do you feel about moving across seas to go to college?

I’m very excited to go somewhere new, but I am afraid of getting homesick or “island fever”.

Did you have to work hard to get this far in your soccer career?

I worked very hard to get to where I am in soccer by devoting a large portion of my time and weekends to practices and extra training I do on my spare time.

Do you expect a good season from girl’s soccer this year?

Yes, I think we will continue our streak of going undefeated in league and hope to go all the way to CIF and State.

Is it hard to manage both club and high school soccer, on top of your academics?

For a while, it was difficult but once I adapted to the hours I had to put in, it became fairly easy. It also helps to know that it will pay off in the end.
