An Unlikely Thanksgiving Call

On November 24, 2016 the Walton County Police Department got a call  from a 5-year-old boy with a simple request. Five-year-old Billy Nolin called and invited everyone at the station to his Thanksgiving dinner. The cops were awed by his simple request. The Sheriff’s communications officer stated that “with all the bad calls we take on a daily basis, this one was a welcomed happy call that made all of us smile.”

After the call was made, the department sent two officers, Damon Byrd and Aaron Etheridge, to show up to Billy’s house to thank him for such a kind and generous offer at his age.  As soon as Billy saw the officers though, he began to cry because he thought his call had gotten him into trouble. Instead of a harsh talking to about how 911 is only for emergencies, the officers told him that they were so proud and grateful for having someone so young, thinking about them on such a special day.

Even though the officers didn’t end up eating any turkey with the Nolin’s, they were happy to let Billy take pictures with their patrol car and even give him a badge. Clearly, Billy and his family will never forget this Thanksgiving and Billy has his heart set on becoming an officer just as Damon Byrd and Aaron Etheridge. To end a special day,  Corey Dobridnia from the sheriff’s office went on to say how this goes to show that deputies aren’t all about just arresting and putting people in jail.
