A Series of Unfortunate Events Review

Annie Swierczek, Staff Writer

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, the famous 13 series book, popular amongst many children, has recently come out with a Netflix Series depicting the first four books. The plot follows the three extraordinarily gifted children, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire, whose parents were recently killed in a house fire and keep getting into the grasp of the evil Count Olaf.  The series is full of ‘unfortunate’ adventures as all of the Baudelaire’s caretakers are caught in the crossfire of Count Olaf’s evil plots for the Baudelaire fortune.

Neil Patrick Harris, playing the role of Count Olaf, brings in more viewers and proves his talents with a share of comedy and acting in the role of Count Olaf to perfection. It is irrefutable that Harris takes the limelight with his prior experiences. Other recognizable characters such as Justice Strauss portrayed by Joan Cusack, in the Showtime show Shameless and multiple movies such as, School of Rock and Toy Story 2/3.

Although reading this books as a child brings sentimental value to the show, it is equally as enjoyable as the plot of the show is just a little bit different from the original.  The infamous Lemony Snicket, played by Patrick Warburton, plays as the narrator and overseer of the Baudelaire fortune and the events of their life.

Overall, the Netflix show is a light-hearted story with little tales of the Baudelaire lives and is highly recommended for little children to even high schoolers.
