Shark Story: Alyssa Macias (9)

Sawyer Long and Ella Mago

Alyssa Macias(9) is a Santiago High School freshman who enjoys music and dancing. Alyssa is a part of Santiago High School’s Color Guard. Besides taking part in color guard, Alyssa enjoys spending time with her dogs, and cooking. We chose Alyssa, because we admire her passion for participating in color guard.

What made you want to join color guard?

“My aunt was in it in high school, and it just seemed really fun when my mom told me about it.”

How many days and how long do you practice?

“On Tuesdays for two hours and on Saturdays for four hours.”

Do you go to competition?

“It depends on the captain, she decides if JV wants to go or not.”

What is your favorite routine?

“The rally from first semester’s routine was probably my favorite out of all of them.”

Do you get nervous while performing?

“No, not really because I think it is easy to perform with other people.”

What is it like to perform with band?

“It is fun because a lot of my friends are out on the field with me and it is really fun.”

What is the difference between color guard and winter guard?

“Color guard is when you perform with the band(September through November). Winter Guard when you perform by yourself at competitions (December through March).”
