Shark Story: Brendan La Pean (9)

Kayla Hageman, Staff writer

Everybody seems to love the passing time of watching YouTube videos and appreciating what the creators do. One of our very our sharks that walk these halls, Brendan La Pean, a freshman, is aspiring to be one of the creators in the YouTube community. When Brendan isn’t doing homework for his honors classes he is doing what he does best, creating content for people to view. I managed to get an interview with him and asked him these questions.

What YouTuber do you aspire to be?
“CaseyNeistat; I love how much work he puts into his videos and I think the shots of the scenery he gets are just specular.”

Why did you decide that YouTube is something that you wanted to take part in?
“I’m not too sure honestly, I like technology and the aspect of capturing stuff on camera in the moment and being able to share it with others is a pretty cool concept.”

Where do you see yourself in five years, YouTube wise?
“Hopefully, I have reached a decent fan base and I am able to make revenue off my videos. If I do, then I can peruse it event further.”

Do you want to have a job as a YouTuber?
“If it all works out, then yes. I would really enjoy having it as a career, but you have to work hard and have the determination to get there. Who doesn’t want to vlog the amazing adventures you have?”

What is something about YouTube that really draws you into it?
“The community aspect of it to be honest. I really enjoy how everything revolves around one person and then it’s almost all fun and games and life seems perfect through the lens.”

How does your talent of editing help you with the videos you create?
“If you don’t have good editing skills then your videos could always be bland and be lacking something. To me personally having good editing could add a new and cool perspective to something.”

At what age did you realize you really enjoyed video editing?
“This year actually, I sort of just felt a real connection with it at 14. Not to mention 14 is the age I am now.”

What will your videos be about?
“It will mainly consist of vlogs of my daily life, what I do, some scenery of the environment that is around me, and occasionally a few music videos and skits.”

How would you describe your style of editing?
“Very happy. If it is sad in my opinion I don’t see the point in making the video in the first place. I like to be happy and upbeat and use good music to engage the viewers.”

Who are some of your favorite YouTubers?
“Number one, of course, has to be CaseyNeistat, I really appreciate him, then it would have to be Colleen and Rachel Ballinger and finally Romanatwood. On the other hand, there are plenty of other YouTubers that I can appreciate as well.”

What are some of your favorite things to videotape?
“I definitely thrive in the scenery shots. I think it is really cool to see all the surroundings that are around us. Another thing that I really enjoy capturing is family shots.”

Do you believe YouTube will benefit you throughout your life?
“I think it will benefit me throughout my life because if I am constantly pushing myself to make better videos, that means I have to push myself to do fun and entertaining stuff in real life. It will just push me to be more active and really get myself out there.”

If you had to predict how famous you will get off YouTube, what are your predictions?
“I have a very strong feeling that like most YouTubers, it will take me 2-3 years till you just hit a certain video that blows up and then that’s when the popularity starts. Once that happens that when I feel I will hit a substantial amount of fame, hopefully.”

What don’t you like about becoming a YouTuber?
“There is just a lot of competition on YouTube, there millions of people doing it nowadays, and typically there is a lot of hate but I don’t usually pay attention to that, otherwise there is not much I dislike about YouTube”

If you could choose to collab with any YouTuber in the community who would you collab with?
“CaseyNeistat, ha I think you can tell that I just really admire him and his channel.”

It was really a pleasure to get to interview Brendan and if you want to check out his channel and get updates, feel free to subscribe!
