Why You Need to See “It”

Gabby Puerner, Staff Writer

The remake of the 1990s horror film ‘It’ hit theaters on Thursday September 7, 2017. The thriller is based on the novel by Stephen King, who is known for his chilling horror novels. You may have seen other movies based on King’s stories, such as “The Shining” and “Children of the Corn”. In the movie, we learn how the clown, also known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, returns to town every 27 years, which is ironic and terrifying because the original movie came out 27 years ago.

You may also remember the clown frenzy that occurred around this time last year. People began dressing up as horrifying clowns, looking as if they were straight out of a nightmare, terrorizing innocent people. Even though this trend did not start in California, it spread to every other state in the US. Some speculated that the clowns started as a promotion for “It” and eventually escalated into something far worse than what the writers intended.

Although the movie is not incredibly scary (unless you’re afraid of clowns), there is an amazing story line that draws you in. In a small town, a group of children known as “The Losers Club” band together in order to defend themselves from the town bullies who are called “The Bowers Gang.” Little did the kids know, they would become involved in something incredibly scary and dangerous. When Bill, a boy from “The Losers Club”, loses his little brother Georgie to the clown, he is determined to avenge his death. The group starts hunting the clown and having many encounters with him where he takes the form of what each child fears most. All of the children have a rough background so it is easy for the clown to find a way to scare them. The end of the movie will leave you wanting more, so you should definitely make your way to the theaters!
