Zobrist hit a grounder to first that Mike Napoli (Indians) fielded and threw to Lindor at second. Rizzo slid in under Lindor’s feet, but out after a play review which might have been too close to call. That brought up Addison Russell (Cubs) with runners on the 1st and 3rd. He hit a shallow pop-up to center. Bryant, knew that Rajai Davis doesn’t have a strong throwing arm, began to run home for a chance to tie the game. Zobrist scored and Contreras slid into second base, safe by several feet. Kluber ended the inning by retiring Jason Heyward on a pop-out to shortstop.

Bottom 4th: Kyle Hendricks (Cubs) started the inning off well by retiring Jose Maddon (Indians) with a short grounder to 1st base. He also retired Lonnie Chisenhall (Indians) on a soft popup to left -field for the second out. With Rajai Davis up next, he had to concentrate . He did just that. Davis hit a fly to right-field to end the inning. Hendricks pitch count was only at 50, but he wasn’t going to stay on the mound for much longer.

Top 5th: The Cubs extended their lead. Javier Baez (Cubs) swung at  Kluber’s first pitch of the inning crushing a home run. Terry Francona (Cubs) immediately headed to the mound to replace Kluber with Miller to start what could be a trouble for the Indians’ bullpen. Dexter Fowler (Cubs) was the first batter to hit off Miller and was able to stroke a 1-2 slider into left-field for a single. Kyle Schwarber (Cubs) gave Miller some help by grounding into a 6-4-3 double-play. No runners on, 2 outs. Kris Bryant (Cubs) came up and worked a full-count off Miller. Bryant was walked on the ninth pitch after seeing Miller’s “unhittable” slider. Anthony Rizzo crushed a single to right-field. Bryant slid into home and Rizzo was able to slide into 2nd base safely. Ben Zobrist (Cubs) hit a ball to deep center field, but Davis caught it on the warning track to ending the inning with 1 run scored by the Cubs. Miller’s pitch count was at 20.

Bottom 5th:  Jon Lester, as a reliever had major problems for the Cubs, along with his personal catcher David Ross. Because 2 mistakes by Ross, the Indians scored two runs, cutting Chicago’s lead in half. Kyle Hendricks (Cubs) came in to start the inning even though Jon Lester was ready in Chicago’s bullpen. He got a soft grounder to second from Coco Crisp  (Indians) for the first out. He struck out Roberto Perez for the second out. Carlos Santana was walked by Hendricks and his day was done. Lester started the next batter, Jason Kipnis. Kipnis hit a soft grounder, fielded by Ross, who had just entered the game. He threw the ball well out of Anthony Rizzo’s reach, which allowed Francisco Lindor coming up with runners on second and third with two outs. Lester threw a ball in the dirt that ricochet off of Ross’s mask. Ross was upset going after the ball, as he stumbled, taking long to recover the past ball. Both runners scored. Lester struck out Lindor to end the inning, but the game certainly got more intense.

Top 6th: Ross helped sooth some of the damage Cubs defense had done in the previous inning. By launching a one-out home run to center field, the Cubs lead increased to 6-3. Jason Heyward grounded out to first, creating the 2nd out. Javier Baez struck out ending the inning. Andrew Miller, who looked unhittable in playoffs, has now allowed two earned runs and gotten four outs.

Bottom 6th: Mike Napoli still continued to struggle with his hitting by striking out to lead off the half-inning.  Jose Ramirez on deck. He grounded out to shortstop, nearly beating Addison Russell’s throw to first base  with a terrific stretch by Anthony Rizzo. Brandon Guyer came in as a pinch-hitter for Lonnie Chisenhall and he hit a two-out single to left-field, Davis grounded out to strand him at first.

Top 7th: Dexter Fowler began the inning off with a single.  Kyle Schwarber to the plate in a tough lefty-on-lefty matchup against Andrew Miller. The reliever won the battle, getting Schwarber to fly out to left.-field. But with that  Miller’s day was over, with Francona replacing him with the Indian’s closer, Cody Allen. Allen stranded the runner he inherited from Miller by striking  Kris Bryant out. Fowler was caught stealing after the pitch for a double play. He threw 43 pitches in two and one-third innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs.

Bottom 7th: Crisp flied out to left to start off the inning and then Lester ran the count full against Roberto Perez. The catcher was walked on the seventh pitch. Naquin came in as a pinch-runner for Perez before Santana hit a come-backer to Lester. Lester barely looked at second before throwing underhand to first to get one out on a play that would have gotten two. Lester struck out Jason Kipnis to end the inning.

Top 8th: A past ball on strike three forced a throw to first base. Anthony Rizzo was retired, starting the inning. Ben Zobrist grounded out to first. Addison Russell watched strikes two strikes sail right past him. on the 3rd pitch he popped out to first base, ending the inning. Allen just needs 17 pitches to record five outs.

Bottom 8th: Aroldis Chapman gave up Chicago’s three-run lead in two batters. Jon Lester got the first two outs of the inning, but was pulled from the mound after Jose Ramirez hit a ball up the middle which was not executed well by Addison Russell. In an effort for a 4 out save, Chapman threw seven consecutive fastballs to Brandon Guyer, at 100.3 miles per hour. It was the last one that cost him as Guyer drove the ball to left–center for a double, bringing in one run. Chapman lost it, allowing a two-run home run to Rajai Davis, tying the game and blew the attempt to save the game. Coco Crisp came up and hit a single, but Yan Gomes, struck out to end the inning.  Chapman threw 21 pitches and looked he was done for it.

Top 9th:  Cleveland Indians leading and rain starting to fall, Cody Allen walked the leadoff batter, David Ross. 5 pitches. The Cubs brought Chris Coghlan as a pinch-runner for Ross. He was erased on a force-out when Jason Heyward grounded a well hit ball to second base. Heyward got something started. Stealing his third base of the series and advancing to third on a bad throw from Yan Gomes. Michael Martinez was also brought in as a defensive player in right field to help prevent a sacrifice fly from scoring a run. Shaw took care of Javier Baez by striking him out on a two-strike bunt attempt. With Dexter Fowler up next, the cubs had some confidence. He laced a ball up the middle before Francisco Lindor chased it down behind second base and threw Fowler out at first. The Indians get their a chance to win the game and the series at home in the bottom of the ninth.

Bottom 9th: This game was headed into extra innings. Chapman was back to start the bottom of the ninth despite his tired eyes in the eighth inning. Carlos Santana popped a fly out before ending up in a battle with Jason Kipnis. He fired Kipnis several of sliders rather than his signature heater, ending in a full-count before slamming him with a 97.4-mph fastball. Francisco Lindor flied out to right, ending the inning.

During this time, a 17 minute rain delay took place. The Cubs took some time to reflect on some mistakes during the last 9 innings. They were determined to win the last game of the World Series.

Top 10th: The Cubs are back in the lead thanks to Ben Zobrist, Miguel Montero, and a few walks by Shaw, Indians player. The game resumed with Kyle Schwarber facing Bryan Shaw. The Cubs’ designated hitter once again stepped up to the challenge, hitting a grounder through the right side of the infield for his third hit of the game.Albert Almora came in as a pinch-runner for Schwarber. The move paid off when Kris Bryant hit a hard pop out to center. Almora showed off some well executed baserunning, by tagging up and sliding into second base. With first base empty, Shaw purposely walked Anthony Rizzo.  Almora hit a double down the third-base line. This excited the Cubs. Shaw then issued another walk on Addison Russell.  With bases loaded, Miguel Montero laced a single into left-field, driving in Chicago’s eighth run of the game. Cleveland brought in Bauer with bases loaded and only one out. The pitcher took care of business. He struck out Jason Heyward and got Javier Baez out on a popup to center field. The Indians now have their chance to get three outs and get back into the game.

Bottom 10th: With one out left, the Indians were now down one run in the game. This was as close as they would get. As the Cubs ended the game with a 8-7 win and a 108 losing streak… broken! The ending was complicated. Aroldis Chapman was out of the game after throwing 35 pitches in one and 1 1/3. With the Indians closer gone, the Cubs called on Carl Edwards Jr. The 25-year-old right-handed pitcher with 41 career regular season appearances and two career saves, to close things out. He started things off by striking out Mike Napoli swinging on a 95-mph fastball. He got Jose Ramirez to ground out to shortstop for the second out, and brought up Brandon Guyer. Edwards walked him on five pitches. Rajai Davis, who had tied the game in the eighth inning with a two-run home run. Chicago allowed Guyer to advance to second base without a throw and Davis, again hit a single that drove Guyer in and closed Chicago’s lead to one run. Joe Maddon pulled Edwards for Michael Montgomery with Michael Martinez. The left-hander took care of any mess left behind, sending Martinez home on a soft rolling ground ball, earning himself and his team the 2016 World Series Games!

Final Score 8-7, THE CHICAGO CUBS WIN.
